Blog Post #2 – Project Plan

In this Blog Post, I will dig deeper into my big inquiry question, “How does disease affect the world?” by asking three smaller questions.

Operational Description of Rare Diseases - Rare Diseases International

1. What is disease?

  • Although this may seem like a broad question, it is the base of my inquiry question and allows us to gain a better understanding of the vocabulary that will be used throughout my blog posts. It is also important because it forms the foundational understanding necessary to address various aspects of diseases, including their causes, symptoms, transmission, prevention, and treatment. Overall, it provides the necessary knowledge and context for addressing the impact of diseases on individuals, communities, and societies at large.

2. What are the social and economic consequences of disease outbreaks on communities and countries?

  • This question delves into the societal and financial challenges faced by communities and nations during disease outbreaks, exploring aspects such as healthcare systems, and economic stability. This allows my audience and I to better understand that disease has a greater impact than just the human it is impacting, but also how different parts of the world handle situations like this differently, since they are all differently impacted. This is also a good base to understand before answering my third and final sub question.

3. What is the long-term impact of disease on healthcare infrastructure, research, and public health policies?

  • Understanding the long-term impact of diseases on healthcare infrastructure, research, and public health policies is important for many reasons. Firstly, it allows healthcare authorities to assess the impact of the disease outbreaks on healthcare systems. Over time, diseases can overwhelm hospitals and medical personnel, leading to resource shortages. By understanding these long-term effects, healthcare providers can better prepare for future challenges and allocate resources efficiently. Secondly, studying the long-term impact of diseases on research is essential for scientific progress. Lastly, analyzing the enduring influence of diseases on public health policies provides valuable insights into the effectiveness of various measures implemented during outbreaks.

Finding an answer to the question “How does disease impact the world?” has profound global implications. It enables nations to implement effective public health policies, use resources efficiently, and respond to disease outbreaks quickly. Understanding the global impact of diseases creates international collaboration, leading to joint efforts in research, vaccine development, and healthcare improvement. It also promotes awareness and education, empowering communities to take preventive measures and support affected regions. Overall, this knowledge is instrumental in creating a healthier, more resilient world population.

  1. Hi Perla,
I find your inquiry question so interesting as it is so engaging and important to learn more about. There are so many new diseases and viruses that no one knows the cure for throughout the world. Many people loose thier lives due to disease and there are so many long term effects disease outbreaks cause. Your sub-question about the social and economic consequences of disease outbreaks on communities is so interesting and I cant wait to see what you find. I was also wondering what are some examples of diseases that have effected the world substancially? I cant wait to read more about your question!

  2. Hi Perla,
I’m intrigued by your topic and have considered it before. I was thinking about how big of an influence the pandemic had, especially after it happened. Who knows how many new viruses or diseases have been discovered? It’s fascinating to learn about the long-term and short-term effects of diseases. You’ve chosen an interesting topic, and I can’t wait to read more of your blogs. Your subquestions are intriguing. Doing research on the worldwide impact of disease will provide you with a great solution to your main question. You’re on the right path, and I’ve located a few links that could be useful.

  3. Hi Perla,
I believe that your inquiry question will be very interesting and difficult. I like your second step because, instead of only focusing on health aspects, you also decided to focus on other factors that disease might bring depending on how contagious or serious it is. For example, if someone gets sick, they might not be able to attend work, and if the disease is serious enough a company could go bankrupt because of this. People could get scared of the virus or disease and protest, which causes political disorder. I really like your project plan and inquiry question!
