Blog Post #2: Project plan

Blog #2: Project plan
1. Provide three steps for your research with a brief explanation of how this information will lead to addressing your question.

For my three steps, I decided to go through not only a visually appealing representation of my topic but also the historical aspect of it due to the vast nature of the fashion industry! With that being said here are the three steps I will be following for my research:

1. The growth of creative directors and their roles within the fashion industry throughout history:

Firstly I will be delving into the historical aspect of having a creative director in a fashion house. You may be wondering why this is important for my topic, however, creative directors weren’t celebrities like we have grown to know today. In fact, the “creative director” role wasn’t always the glamour we see now. Hence it is important to know the history of how the role itself came to be and how that applies to our present and future. In addition to that, by allowing readers to understand the history of this role as well as some of the controversies that have occurred in the past centuries, readers are able to come up with their own inputs and ideas on this matter as well.

2. The responsibilities of a creative director and the relationship between a brand and its designers.

After delving into the history and events which have taken place regarding this matter, I will delve deep into the responsibilities and the process which goes into being a creative director of a fashion house. Just like any job, one must have not only the experience but also the knowledge to be in such a position of power. Especially one which connects the realm of art and politics in such a glamourous manner (which we have learned from the previous step). By mentioning the criteria for becoming a creative director, I will also delve into the highly coveted education and interning opportunities which can secure one’s future in the fashion industry. By showcasing this information, I hope to not only educate those reading about the demanding nature of the fashion industry but also about the technicalities of it as many look at the fashion industry as a lower occupation compared to medicine or law, however, that is really not the case when we look at it.

3. The present culture surrounding creative directors and its path in the future.

After creating a thorough portfolio and foundation on the information surrounding creative directors, I will delve into the present culture of creative directors, as well as what it can mean in the future. Because my question/topic is specifically geared toward the role of creative directors, I will tie all of the information I presented in my last 2 steps into a final presentation of visual and descriptive answers for those who follow me throughout my research for this semester. As the fashion industry is ever-changing it is hard to predict what will happen in the future, however, I hope throughout my posts I will be able to help those around me create their own ideas of how fashion will be affected/grow in the future and not only give them my own interpretation of it.

2. Provide 5 valid sources that might be useful to address the question.

3. Explain how this question will have implications to other individuals and/or my community.

As we live in a growing world, culturally, politically, and technology-wise, fashion is one of those fields which interconnect all of these aspects into one. By exploring this topic and questions, I hope to educate my community and those reading on not only fashion but also the aforementioned topics. In addition, I believe by sharing my research, I can help my community come up with their own ideations on what the future holds for us fashion-wise while enjoying the historical significance of the field as well as the visually appealing nature of fashion.

Thank you for reading!

  1. Hello Sanam,

What an interesting topic that truly delves into the ins and outs of what we know as the fashion industry! I respect the fact that you are taking the time to research this question and the multitude of facets in which it is present, centred around the overarching concept of the “creative director.” I am particularly fascinated by the many ways in which Creative Directors in the fashion industry were not the picturesque beings we see them as in the present day. I would love to know how you predict fashion will evolve. How would it exist without the prevalence of people like creative directors in the industry? Nevertheless, I wish you well on your research and blog posts!

  2. Hello Sanam,

I love your project plan! Reading the details of what you have put about creative directors, I am starting to understand their importance. It’s great knowing that you are researching how different creative directors were looked at and treated in the old times, and the requirements and responsibilities of being a creative director.

While doing your research on the future of creative directors, I suggest that you look into types of influence that could affect creative directors. I think it would be cool to see how trends change, and how people’s interests can affect what creative directors do.

  3. Hi Sanam!
As someone who loves fashion as well, I really like how detailed you wrote this post as it goes into every inch of the industry and allows you to learn more about it as if you were in the shoes of a designer yourself. Though you are not gaining actual hands-on experience, your post shows how passionate you are about this subject and makes it feel like you are doing the hands-on work! If you’d like you could research on knowing how certain styles come back, and why they come back. This has happened with the Y2K style as now many are inspired by the 2000s sense of style and incorporate it within their own fashion today!
I found this link that explains the thought between that, hopefully, it will help with your research!

    Good luck with your project!!
