Blog Post #1 – Inquiry

Hello everyone and welcome back to my Blog. I am so exited to be sharing my inquiry question, which is, “How does disease affect the world?”

I picked this inquiry question because it fulfills my interest in health sciences and allows me to broaden my knowledge about the topic through my specific areas of interest. I picked this question since it’s something that can be elaborated on and a question of which I can create multiple sub-questions for in order to fully answer it.

I also believe that it is a very relevant topic to discuss since in this generation, I feel that we something have difficulty differentiating disease and sickness/illness. Answering this Inquiry question will help in doing that. To add, I chose this inquiry question since there are many types of disease I would like to learn about and how they both individually and genrally impact the world we live in.

This question sticks out to me as I find that it integrates many other components and topics that interest me, other than health science. By reseaching this question, I will learn/teach about how diseases spread and how they impact different populations and communities based on many circumstances and also how we can prevent them from spreading and worsening. There is also lots of social and economic research to be done regarding the topic which I also enjoy, helping me chose this as my question.

Overall, asking how diseases affect the world is not just about understanding the health implications but also about addressing broader global challenges. It includes a wide range of decision making processes, leading to more effective and comprehensive strategies for disease prevention and control which is why I’m passionate in learning about it. Thanks for reading!

  1. Hey Perla!
I loved reading your blog post about what your Inquiry question for this semester will be because it showed how passionate you are about the topic! I also love how you picked one that goes with a field you are interested in, that being health science.

This is a link to an article about your topic as a whole that might help you in parts of your subquestions! It talks about “infectious disease in an era of global change”. It goes into great depth abot how disease has affected the world in the past and how it most probably will affect us in the future as well.

I hope it helps kick-start your research because I can’t wait to hear more about it!
    Best of luck, Anannya.

  2. Hello Perla,

I am very interested in your topic and the multitude of answers that can be derived from such a universal concept. The biggest stand-out to me is the broad nature of how you plan on answering this inquiry. From infectious to hereditary, genetic to non-genetic, the ways you plan on elaborating will definitely inform the reader on information that is quite niche but important to recognize. I would love to see you talk about how disease “spreads” to the family of those affected, and the nature of pain that may come along with it. For instance, what about disease is the most prevalent factor in making it so mentally challenging for loved ones. Why does this sometimes break family beyond financial and social aspects? Stellar topic, and I cannot wait to read your upcoming posts!

  3. Hey Perla,
This is an amazing blog post! I love the little pictures you included. I also agree with you that especially nowadays it’s hard to know the difference between diseases and illnesses. I think this is because both terms have a lot of similarities, so people often confuse one for the other. A question I have for you is what types of diseases have no cure to them? I feel like even though science is advancing there are still many diseases that scientists and doctors have no clue on how to cure. Below I have provided a couple of links that talk about the most common diseases and the most dangerous diseases which might help you with your research.

  4. Hi Perla,

I thought that your inquiry question was really interesting. I like it because it is a broad question that is also very relevant to the world today. I don’t know much about the topic of disease at all, so I think your posts will be really interesting and educational to read. I also really liked the pictures that you used with your post. A question that I have for you is what is the difference between the effects that disease used to have on the world before modern medicine versus now, when we know so much more about different diseases and cures. Below I have attached some links to websites that might help with your research. Hope these help with your research. I’m excited to read your future blog posts!

    Good luck with your research!

  5. Hi Perla! I thought this question was great as it tells us a little bit more about your interests and what you want to do in the future! I have a question for you I was hoping you could answer for me if you get the chance to see this. Do you plan on focusing on more physical diseases in our bodies or do you plan on integrating a bit about mental illnesses too? I know our generation definitely has had a lot more struggles with it in the past and I would love to read about it if it was something you were to think about.

Thanks so much and I can’t wait to read your next post!!!

  6. Hi Perla,
This is a great question with many topics to research on, and I hope to see many suggestions to help diseases from spreading. A couple questions I have for you is what types of diseases and illnesses are you most looking forwarding to researching on? Would you research on food, which people have been indicating that many unknown chemicals have increased a person’s risk of have types of cancer? Maybe debunking myths that ancient viruses are going to be released if global warming affects glaciers, or how social media can affect people’s view of themselves and others? I must say, I love your choice of topic. It is very diverse! I hope to see you thrive in your journey of research.
