Blog Post #4 – Second Round of Research

In my previous blog post, I researched what consequences there could be from not learning about history. In this blog post, I plan to research if learning about history helps us learn about our previous mistakes.

History gives us the opportunity to learn about our previous mistakes (1) as well as learn from them. These mistakes can help us make progress in our lives (5) and reflect on our humanity. (6) History helps us understand what it means to be human. (2) Learning from these mistakes is a life lesson. (6) We can learn how we should aim for our future (5) as well as how to contextualize our present. (5)

History can also help us to understand ourselves. (4) Families come from history (2) and history helps us to connect events in our family and our lives. (7) By learning about history and our ancestors, we learn about the experiences that shaped us. It teaches us how to become a more rounded person. (7) When students are taught about history, they can grow and develop as people. (3) History can serve as inspiration for future generations. (7)

History Is Always About Politics

Learning about history can teach us about change (4). This can help us have a better understanding of how to live in the world. (2) Patterns in history can help us clarify why things happen (1) and this can in turn help us keep from repeating the past. (6) By learning from history, we can become impartial as decision makers (1) as well as make us better decision makers. (4)

History also has a distinct cultural impact. By educating ourselves on past historical events, we can increase cross-cultural understanding. (3) This can also give people a sense of placement that they might have been previously lacking. (3)

In my next post, I will research if understanding the causes of problems in history helps us to avoid problems in the future. Thank you so much for reading!
