Step 3 Action Post

Over the past couple of weeks, Mai and I have been trying to come up with a time where we can both meet up and go pick up garbage. However, because we both have very busy schedules with our extracurriculars, work, and heavy school work, we had not been able to find a day. This was our major challenge. We were able to overcome this problem, however, as we have successfully planned to meet up next Sunday afternoon at Town Centre Park to pick up garbage. Communicating often, letting each other know when we are free and our coming up schedule was helpful in planning for the task.

Besides trying to find times to execute our action, we also successfully completed many other tasks to help the progress of our project. We both researched online about the current situation with the inefficient disposal of trash and litter that is out in the environment, and the negative effects of this problem. While this helps us be more aware of the problem and enhance our overarching understanding of the issue, it also encourages us to stay determined in our action project and believe in its significance. Moreover, we researched online to find locations that are best fit for garbage pickup. After consideration, we decided to have our first stop at town centre, as it is a close and realistic location where we can efficiently complete our task.

After next Sunday, Mai and I are going to evaluate our progress and see what we can improve on for the next time. For instance, depending on how much garbage we pick up, we might consider going to similar locations, like another park, or switching places like going to trails or neighbourhoods. Furthermore, we can talk to other people who have done similar projects in the past and ask for their advice to further improve our progress.

  1. Hi Jade,
I like your initiative to help out our community. I totally relate to your struggles, I don’t think I would be able to find time easily to pick up garbage. Perhaps on those days, you could make posters saying not to litter and post them in the park. Both ways have the same initiative. 2. Hello Kiara,

Putting up posters is a very good idea. However, I’d make sure to check in with the city to see if there are rules and regulations about posting posters in public areas.
