Blog Post #1: How Fears And Phobias Evolve from Childhood to Adulthood?

For this new semester I will be doing another Inquiry project. My new Inquiry question is “How fears and phobias evolve from childhood to adulthood?”

I wanted to research this topic because I am afraid of many things that my parents and other adults no longer fear. I know they had similar fears to me when they were young so I wonder when and why they stopped being afraid of those things. They still have fears now, but why have their fears changed? I intend to answer these questions to the best of my abilities.

  1. Hey Natalie,
I love your question and I find it very interesting because I have learned about this in Psychology 12. I think this is a great subject to explore because it can give you insight into your own life and understanding of your family in relation to you. I think something interesting to explore would be to compare physical fears like spiders to fears that are developed through parenting and life experiences like fear of failure, rejection, and loss.

    Good luck with your research!

  2. Hi Natalie,
Great topic! I am very interested to see your future posts about this topic because it is such a unique topic that I also believe is very important because of the impact it can create in someones life. This is a very interesting topic to research because there are many types of fears that someone can have, something small like a fear of bugs or something bigger like a fear of loosing a person or failing at something. Fears can be developed in so many ways as well so it will be interesting to see your research. I really like this topic and I am very invested to read more into it!
