Blog #1: Inquiry project

1. State your inquiry question. (Please refer to the Essential Questions page for examples)

My inquiry question for semester 2 is What are the key principles of Marxism as a social, economic, and political theory/how it has influenced various societies and movements throughout history?
2. Explain why this is a question of interest to you.

I’ve known about Marxist theory for a few years now but have never delved deeper nor researched what it really is and the effect that it has had on our societies. I’m looking forward to researching not only the principles of Marxism but also its faults and criticism. I think researching this will help me better understand issues of economic inequality and class struggle as well as aid me in further understanding how our society functions. This is such an interesting subject for me as I often hear people talk about Marxism and communism but without really knowing what it is/what it really entails. This research could help me further engage myself in these discussions which could be fascinating and thought-provoking. During this project I would like to research different Marxist figures as well as how Marxism has been involved in various revolutions in history. I think not only researching how it has influenced various societies and movements throughout history would be fascinating but also researching its potential implications for social, political, and economic systems for the future.

  1. Hello, Sammie,

Amazing blog post! Very interesting blog post, I’ve always been interested in history and various political parties, and it is very interesting that a lot of things they said are true, but only partially and manipulated to sound a certain way to the public. Marxism is the base of communism and communism has its ups and downs, it is a very good idea, where everyone is equal. However, many countries that tried to achieve communism often go off the rail and become infested by dictators and corruption. Is it possible to be rid of inequality like Marxism and Communism had idealized, or is it just not possible?
