Blog #1 – Animals!

Hi everyone! Today I will be talking about my topic for this semester! This term I have decided to do an Inquiry Project just because there has been a certain question lingering my head ever since my family adopted a cat!

Why do animals (pets) make people feel so nice/well/good?

Now whether a pet makes you feel less stressed, makes you feel worried when they for example meow, and make you feel so relaxed, I wonder why? Sure it can be a simple answer as they release seretonin, but why? seretonin does make us all excited and creates us to feel better, but it does not explain the attachment that we form with a pet. This can be like a best friend; however, we do not talk to them, we do not even know if they understand us, yet when we see them when coming home, we feel excited and feel as if everything is complete. The general question may be simple, but the thoughts and the other questions that form are complicated to answer because they come from ones feelings and thoughts.

Personally for me my cat makes me  feel comforted, though sometimes he straches me very harshly,  I still love him, and still love being around him. When I am stressed he is the first thing I go to for comfort, he genuinely  makes me feel very relaxed and though I have watched animal documentaries non of them have really said why they make humans feel this way. So I am hoping to figure out why just because I want to see if every pet does this for their owners or if this is just my expereince when having a pet.

  1. Hello Negar,
Nice blog post and an interesting topic!
Having a pet is definitely very ideal for many people, having a little creature around you helps people with their mental health. And cures people of their loneliness.

  2. Hey Negar,
I loved reading your blog post because your inquiry is very similar to mine! I also have a new cat that I got this summer in august. He’s really helped me and the rest of my family feel better and less stressed. Our inquiries are somewhat similar so I’m excited to see your next post and see if it’s similar to mine!

  3. Hey Negar! Reading your blog post and why you chose this topic was really interesting!! I have a phobia towards most animals and personally, can’t relate to the positives people feel towards animals. I do however, find it really interesting how many people react to animals differently in positive and negative ways!

I found an article that I think might help your research. It talks about why humans love pets.

As someone who has a hard time relating to this topic, I cant wait to see your perspective on this! I look forward to reading your future posts and helping you research your topic. Best of luck!!

  4. Hi!

I think this is a really good project! I love animals and I am very interested to see the way your project unfolds.

I think it would be really cool if you went in depth about specific animals that bring extra happiness in or specific animals that make people less happy. For example I am terrified of spiders and love dogs, and I am sure many people feel the same. These are both animals, so I wonder what makes me like one more than the other. Is it because our society has made us like one more than the other?
Is it because one is more pleasing to the eye?

This is already a super interesting project!
