blog post #6 – why do we generalize people?

a. What challenges did you overcome throughout this inquiry project? How did you go about overcoming these challenges?

This question was much more difficult to research than my past inquiry question. There seemed to be a lot less articles on the necessary information I needed to formulate my posts. I overcame this by finding specific examples to support my research.

b. How did this inquiry change the way you think?

I’ve always been aware of generalizations in society, but I had never really deeply considered the influence they have on peoples lives. Because of this, i made sure to thoroughly research their affects, and the psychology behind them as well.

c. How did this investigation impact your future decisions?

My third research round was dedicated to how you can avoid generalizations. Specifically ones with negative connotations or no validity. This effectively pushed me to be better at noticing and appreciating individuality in people.

d. What impact will this investigation have on others locally and/or globally?

I think my inquiry project will cause others to try and break harmful generalizations and opinions they might have of people or groups. Also, hopefully it will reassure others that it’s okay if they don’t fall into generalizations/expectations that are made about them.
