My inquiry question is: What are the impacts of being born blind compared to losing sight later on in life?
I am interested in this question as I am in general interested in eyes and how we have different eye colours and how not everyone has 20/20 vision. However, I am interested in exploring and learning more about being born blind compared to losing sight later in life as many people are born blind, but many people also become blind when they are older. I also became interested in this topic as very recently, I read how people who are born blind cannot see in their dreams, but the majority of people losing sight later in life can still dream visually.
There are a lot of differences and possibly many impacts on being born blind compared to losing sight later in life. I am interested in researching not only about the physical impacts, but also the emotional impacts and the different learning styles.
I am looking forward to sharing my research with everyone and learning about everyone else’s topics!
Hi Karina,
the topic you chose is very interesting. I also find it appealing how everyone has different eye colour 🙂 and I honestly never thought about how someone being born blind dreams versus someone who loses their eye sights later on in life.
I am eager to know more about my eyes 😉

Hi Karina,
This is such a cool question! I’ve always thought about how terrible it would be to lose your eyesight or even your hearing randomly during your life. In my opinion, losing your eyesight later in life would be significantly worse than being born without eyesight, because you’d know what you’re missing. However, one could argue the opposite, that people who lose their eyesight later are lucky or experiencing what it’s like to have eyesight.
Here’s a link of someone sharing their story about what it was like to lose their sight later in life that might be useful: https://www.thecut.com/2014/12/what-its-like-to-slowly-lose-your-eyesight.html
I find this story especially interesting, because since they went blind so gradually, they hardly noticed until it interfered with their daily life.
I look forward to reading your research!
Thank you for the link, Jasmine! I will definitely take a look at it!
I think this is awesome inquiry project because it will help many of us to know the effects of being born blind and losing sight later in life.
I think visual impairment can limit people’s ability to perform everyday tasks and can affect their quality of life and ability to interact with the surrounding world. I think the link below can help you research more on your project. https://lowvision.preventblindness.org/2004/03/25/saving-lives-the-impact-of-vision-loss-in-later-life/
Hello Joseph! Thank you for the link. I will definitely take a look at it 🙂
