Metamorphosis – How does color affect mental state?

Hey everyone,

This is my final post, with my question  “How does color affect mental state?”  as well as my last post with Social Responsibility. It’s been a great 4 years with this course, and I can’t believe how much I’ve grown and gained through this course. The skills that I’ve gained are ones that will stick with me forever. Anyways on a different note, here is my metamorphosis:

What challenges did you overcome throughout this inquiry project? How did you go about overcoming these challenges?

One of the challenges I faced was finding reliable sources. Many websites either didn’t seem reliable and my judgement was telling me that the information could be false. However, I did find some scientific articles that were reliable but the challenge I faced with that was the vocabulary was complicated which made it difficult for me to understand. And since my question is based on color, I ran into quite a few sites that were people’s opinions, therefore not reliable.   To overcome those challenges, I would look into the website a bit and determine whether it seems legit or not. I would take a look at who wrote the article and the background information of the website and all. For the second challenge,  I would try my best to understand what the article is saying and look up the definitions and synonyms of words I was unsure about. That definitely helped me understand the article much better.

How did this inquiry change the way you think?

To be honest, before I did this project, I was rather uneducated about how color can actually have an impact on people’s mood and life. It’s really something that seems like it wouldn’t be impactful, but as I researched more into the topic,  I learned that it is very impactful on one’s life. Think of it this way – If you were working in a room that was an intense hot pink, with patterns everywhere, versus a simply off white room, which do you think you’d be able to more efficiently work in?  And this is my ultimate point;  I personally often do not take the time to think about the small effects something like that could have on something bigger. This doesn’t only apply to my question or even color, it definitely applies to many different aspects in life. That being said, I feel like overall, this inquiry has helped my ability to think more about the “Butterfly Effect” of life, how the small things can have bigger impacts.

How did this investigation impact your future decisions?

My research is about color and mental state so I have learned so much about the topics that I can apply to my daily life. For example, I now know that I can be more efficient while doing work in a calm environment, with lighter colors. With university being online next year due to COVID-19, it is especially important that I am able to work efficiently at home. As I mentioned, this inquiry has made me realize that the small things do have bigger impacts even if we don’t think it does. Therefore, now I will be trying my best to pay attention to the smaller details now because I really know how impactful they can be after I’ve done my research.  I feel like this will be beneficial to my life because a lot of the time, I’ve made mistakes that probably could have been easily avoided if I had been paying closer attention.  For example, in math, sometimes when I do math questions, I don’t write out the small steps and just kind of do it in my head. A lot of the time when I make mistakes, it could have been avoided if I had written out all my steps, or even if I’m trying to look over my work, it can be hard to follow if I don’t write everything out. So I feel like after this inquiry, I have a new appreciation for how the small things can have a bigger impact.

What impact will this investigation have on others locally and/or globally?

I really hope my research will have a similar impact for them that it did for me. I hope people will appreciate how the small things do play a bigger role overall.  I also really hope my research will help them learn what colors would help them focus more, and honestly more about color theory overall. There’s actually so much more to it than one might think, so I hope they find it intriguing and can influence their life for the better. There was also a section of my research where I researched about eyes, and how they work to perceive color. I personally love biology, so I enjoyed learning about it. Although biology and even my entire inquiry project about color theory may not be interesting to everyone, I really hope there is something everyone can take away from it.

Feel free to let me know of  any comments or questions you may have, I will be happy to answer.
