Action Post #4

Hi everyone!

In my last post I shared photos of the greenhouse that I put together. Since then I have collected some seeds, planted them in cardboard egg cartons and peat pots, and have been watering them. I labelled them all and have them staying within my greenhouse. I planted them yesterday and spent all afternoon working on them. Right now i am just working to water them and keep them moist and hope for some sprouting in the next few weeks!

Before I move into my most recent step, I will cover what I accomplished in my last post. In my last step I put together my greenhouse given to me by my grandmother. it was really convenient to have with me and really just helped to keep this project moving quicker! It was really easy to follow up with this post and step, because it didn’t give me any extra work to have to try and find spaces that I could keep the plants. I already had the space to do so – in the greenhouse!

For this new step, the first thing I did was get together the seeds and soil for the plants that I am starting. I followed the directions given and am using organic soil that doesn’t use any toxic ingredients. I have decided to start growing lettuce, tomato, cucumber, cilantro, green and golden peppers and white onions. Depending on the temperatures needed for each of them they were placed in different areas to grow. I grabbed a pot to grow the cilantro in and cardboard egg cartons for the rest of the plants to start growing in. Here are some photos:

The next thing I did was fill up the pot and cartons with soil.

The last thing that I did was put in the seeds and cover them with soil, then I placed them onto baking pans and set them into my greenhouse and watered them.

Again, thankfully so far, this process has been really successful! I don’t believe there have been any challenges that have come with this project, everything has been going very smoothly. I have had access to all the materials I need and everything has been going great. This is also a great motivator to keep busy during this time and stay productive while being home! I really enjoy it. It gives me a sense of peace and pride to have kept busy throughout the day. My only worry is if all of the plants will successfully grow – I know some of the seeds are quite old, so I hope it doesn’t interfere too much with the growth process. Either way, I have only just planted them, so it’s not something I need to be worried about at this point in time.

In my next post I will be keeping you updated on how the plants are doing, and the little challenges and successes that I face with them as time goes on.
