Self-Reflection

Hello! I hope anybody and everybody reading this is doing as best as they can be with both mental and physical health aspects of life. We are all in this together! So, here is my self reflection : )

    1. What is something you did for your body?

I have found it particularly difficult to keep active during this difficult time. Most of my activity comes from playing various sports within my community but because of the pandemic, I’m not able to play on my teams anymore. So, I have been coming up with other ways to keep myself active. My dad recently bought some weights and various gym equipment which I have been using a lot during quarantine. After I eat breakfast, I go out to use the equipment and it has been a great way to kickstart my day and get me energized. I have also been searching some yoga on YouTube. I have followed along for a couple of videos which has left me feeling accomplished, at peace and also very tired! Finally just today, my friend recommended me an app called “Nike training club” that has a lot of free workout/yoga tutorials to try. I’m hoping to start incorporating this into my daily routine as well because whenever I am active, I end up feeling really good physically and also really proud of myself!

2. What is something you did for your mind?

I find my mind is at peace when I have a bit of a routine going. Unfortunately now, my daily routines are pretty scattered. But during this time, I find I can set my mind at ease by being with my family and by taking time to myself. I have been fortunate enough to be able to spend time with my family a lot throughout my life and even more during this time. We have played lots of boardgames, gone for lots of walks, thrown around a football or baseball and most importantly, we’ve had lots of laughs. I think being around my family puts my mind at ease and helps me calm down when I’m stressed. I have also made sure I take some time to do things that make me feel good like reading, painting or exercising as these also help me maintain a good mental balance.

   3. What is something you did for your happiness?

One of the things I have been doing is going outside a lot. I have been bringing my book or work out to the patio and making sure I get some fresh air. I think this really helps me find my happy place. I love listening to the birds and feeling the sunshine as it always leaves me feeling happy and energized. As I mentioned before, I have been spending lots of time with family which defiantly puts me in a happy mood. But one of the biggest and most important things I do to make myself happy is call my friends. It puts me in such a good mood seeing and talking to them even if it is through a screen. There have defiantly been some late nights and uncontrollable laughter when talking to them. They help reassure me that we’ll be able to get through this and that we’re all in the same boat.

4. What is something you did for someone else?

I have been helping out a lot with household work that has to be done especially on the farm. I have been keeping extra care of the animals brushing and feeding them lots and also helping plant a bunch of vegetables in the garden. One of the things I’m actually most proud of helping out with is boosting my friend’s and especially family’s mood. I think my family has come together to help keep each other in good spirits and I’m glad I can be there to help and motivate my family with some fun and positive energy.

  1. Hi Cynthia,
Nice reflection! I used to always get my physical activity mostly from playing sports too, but I obviously can no longer do that either as I play soccer and do martial arts. As a result, what I’m doing is a lot of bodyweight exercises at home, and I also have a workout routine using a single kettlebell. If you have a kettlebell, you should look up some exercises that you can do with it – there’s a lot you can do and I think it’s a great way to work out your entire body!
I also think it’s great that you’re spending lots of time outdoors too, because it can be difficult for your mental health too when staying indoors for so long. A lot of the time, I don’t “feel like it”, but when I finally do push myself to go on a walk, I feel so much better the minute I’m outside and moving.
    Keep up the good work!
