For my action project this semester, I plan to organize a series of park clean-ups. The parks I will focus on include Mundy Park, Stanley Park, and Mariner Park. My goal is to contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment by removing as much litter as possible from these natural spaces. I also hope to involve my friends and family, as working together will allow us to clean more efficiently and make a greater impact. To kick off the project, I plan to visit Mariner Park this weekend since it is the closest park to my home and a great place to begin implementing my plan.

While I’m excited about this initiative, I recognize that there will be challenges along the way. One of the main difficulties will be coordinating with friends to join me, as our schedules are often packed due to sports and other commitments. Another potential obstacle is the weather. April tends to bring a lot of rain, which could complicate outdoor clean-ups. However, dressing appropriately and planning around the forecast should help manage this issue. Additionally, I will need to be strategic when choosing parks that truly need cleaning. Because if I select areas with little to no litter, the environmental impact of my work may be minimal. To avoid this, I plan to research each park beforehand to find locations that will benefit most from a clean-up.

I believe this project is sustainable because it is something I can do regularly, even daily if needed. Picking up litter may seem like a small action, but it makes a difference over time. Every piece of trash removed from a park is one less hazard for wildlife and the environment. Some items can be recycled, while others will be properly placed in a landfill. Although some might argue that litter clean-ups do not address the root causes of pollution, removing waste that already exists is still a critical step toward protecting our ecosystems. Long-term change starts with small, consistent actions like this.

This project provides an opportunity for my friends to also come out and help me pick up litter which can help improve the conditions of more natural habitats. Also, this project offers an opportunity to raise awareness among local residents about the consequences of littering. This will happen when people notice our cleanup efforts and reflect on their actions, promoting better decision-making on proper recycling. To ensure I am making a positive impact I’ll make an effort to collect a substantial amount of garbage and commit to doing this project multiple times every two weeks.
Unfortunately, I do not have an expert helping me with my action project. However, various organizations and websites are dedicated to addressing environmental issues, including litter cleanup which I can access to support my project. Additionally, seeking guidance from individuals with prior experience in similar initiatives for recommendations on suitable locations and timings will enhance the effectiveness of my action plan as well.
