About Me: Jackson Mathenge Wanjohi

Have you ever contemplated the outcome when creativity intersects with determination? That, I would argue, is nothing short of a transformative force—truly a big bang in its own right. My name is Jackson Mathenge, a trainer and a librarian. I oversee a group of young men studying at Thome Boys Secondary, which is located in Laikipia County in Kenya. In them, I see a fiery determination to rise above “the usual”, mediocrity, and stereotypes. I see a generation eager to change the story.

I subscribe to one of life’s simplest philosophies – That no good deed goes unrewarded. I am therefore grateful to every person who contributes to the Butterfly Effect program. Your selflessness and dedication to research are highly commendable. May you receive your reward in whatever nature, shape, or size.

As an introvert, I am an avid reader and fanatic of the fiction genre. My best read so far is “Going Down River Road” by Meja Mwangi. During my early years in primary school and later in high school, I spent considerable time reading everything to the extent that I could not balance my hobby with other school work. This affected my general performance in the final exams. At that moment, I vowed to one day be paid to read. I’m grateful that this is now part of my job as a school librarian.

The word community to me, means the people I share traditions, culture, and norms with. It means the people I want to give back to for continuously shaping me into the man I am today. It is only fair that I recognize Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the organization that has brought Pa-moja’s Butterfly Effect to us. Your role in educating the young people near the borders of the conservancy is more than commendable. Thank you for making us a part of your community.

If I could solve any local problem, it certainly would be political leadership. In a country where ethnic and tribal politics have created so much pain and suffering, and as a youth calling for a revolution in the systems of governance in Kenya, I believe that servant leadership, accountability, and political goodwill are some of the key factors that will spur growth not only in my country but also in all developing countries.

I invite you to join us in our journey of research under the wings of the Butterfly Effect project. May our work create a ripple that will over time cause a whirlwind of enlightenment in all corners of our planet.
