You can call me a hybrid human. Partly born and bred in the northern pastoralist area of Samburu and partly raised in entrepreneurial area of Nanyuki in central Kenya. I combine within myself, the essence of two regions. And they have been very fundamental in shaping who I am, Felix Sydney Leajore.
I am a teacher and Butterfly Effect lead in Kenya. Currently, I serve as the conservation education officer at Ol Pejeta Conservancy.
I am introverted in nature, and prefer to spend most of the time alone or in company of close friends. For this, I find much comfort in books and podcasts. I enjoyed reading Animal Farm by George Orwell, where farm animals grouped to overthrow Mr. Jones, the farm owner, so that they can create a society where all animals are treated equally.
My political conscience is quite intense. I vividly recall one time at the University, when I joined other students in opposing a proposal by the administration to introduce an indirect election model which is similar to the electoral college of the United States. Our request was unsuccessful but I came out of that with a lot of lessons on what it takes to bring change. I detest inequality and I will always raise concerns if I come across any.
I am deeply religious. I subscribe to the Christian belief. I attended a Christian University and the university’s chaplain can take credit for my sensitivity towards divinity. My spirituality is not completely a dogma, and even though it is an integral part of me, I resist all attempts to make it a mere show off but rather a part of moral philosophy, a topic that I like.
I love football. I love the leadership and tactical expertise that is put by the coaches to win matches. I would love to play football but it is difficult to ‘keep an eye on the ball’, thanks to my short-sightedness. My fanaticism is only limited to watching my favorite team Arsenal.
My favorite food is chapati. Any meal accompanied with chapati is perfect for me. And if a personable lady can cook chapati like my mother, then she only has to signal and I will come.
Apart from this few personal observations, I have many other traits that are not worth mentioning. All in all, I am a product of different environments. From this, I have had ups and downs. From my ‘downs’, I have learnt courage and doubtfulness. From my ups, I have learnt everything else. All this known, and the unknown, complete who I am.
Hello Sidney, your leadership in the Butterfly Effect and Ol Pejeta Conservancy is commendable. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas. I’m an introvert, too, and I enjoy reading!
Hello this is a nice read , it has been amazing being part of the butterfly effect program.
Hello Sydney, I too love football because I have witnessed many people making their lives better. It is also a unifying game that is played and watched globally. Hence it will enable you to learn about different cultures .
