blog post #4 – recycling my own personal bottles

for those who are new here this is my action:

My two partners and I will run a bottle drive; We will also do a park clean-up to get more bottles, then we will recycle the bottles at Return It Depo. The money we raised will then be donated to the Wildlife Rescue Association of BC, an organization that helps injured, orphaned, and pollution-damaged wildlife. We thought that this was not only a good organization to donate to, but also a good way to raise both money and awareness. The bottles we collect are being kept from ending up in landfills, we are cleaning parks, and we also get to tell people about why we are collecting them.

This week I went to Return It Depot and I recycle my own bottles, ones that had been piling up for a while, whilst I was planning out my action. My family consumes a lot of sparkling water which is kept in glass bottles. I got 30.90$ for my bottles, most of it from the glass. My partners are also going to recycle their bottles which will accumulate more money.

“Recycling can benefit your community, the economy, and the environment. Recycling collects and processes materials that would otherwise be thrown away as trash and turns them into new products” (1) There are many environmental benefits to recycling; it conserves natural resources, helps with the climate change issue, helps with energy savings, and reduces waste & pollution. Some recycling centers like return it depot give you money back for your bottles, electronics or large appliances such as fridges. (2). It’s not a lot of money but we hope to make enough to help make a difference.

Next, we will clean a park, we decided not to do a school bottle drive because all three of us only have block 3 off, so it wouldn’t be very efficient. instead, we will collect bottles from house-to-house bottle drive. Then we will donate the money raised to the wildlife rescue association.
