blog post #2 – sustainability and complications

As I stated in my first post my action will address Development Goal 15, life on land. We will run a bottle drive, do a park clean-up and recycle the bottles at Return It Depo. Then we will send the money we raised to the Wildlife Rescue Association of BC, the bottles we collect are being kept from ending up in landfills, we are cleaning parks, the money gets sent to a good cause and we get to tell people why we are collecting them.

Some of the complications that may come up in this action are:

  • Getting people to participate (give bottles)
  • Figuring out the logistics of the collection
  • Storing the bottles once collected
  • Transporting bottles (we can’t drive)

This action is sustainable since:

  1. A park cleanup prevents pollution from accumulating and keeps the park healthy
  2. Help preserve wildlife as we are donating the money to a sustainable cause which supports wildlife
  3. Giving the bottles a new life by recycling them

This action provides opportunities for:

  • The animals we are raising money for so that they can live happy safe and healthy lives
  • The wildlife technicians by funding them to properly care for the animal while maintaining a living wage
  • The bottles we recycle to have a new purpose instead of ending up in a garbage mound
  • Us, my partners and I, to be a part of our community and learn how to organize and execute a multistep fundraiser instead of just part taking in one.
