Blog post 1-Ciara Fenrick

The three most important values I picked are equality, risk and responsibility.

Firstly, the reason I picked equality as one of the most important values is because without equality, everyone is treated differently and compared to others and they don’t deserve that. It’s not fair for people to get treated differently or are not respected as much just because they are different in there own way. People are probably are sad and not comfortable with the idea of them being treated differently. I would not assume you would as well. Everyone should be treated equally and not better or worse. There is no reason why people should be treated differently then others.

The second important value I put in is risk. I put risk as one of my important values because if you just do the same stuff all the time, scared of what comes next if you do something, or you just don’t want to do it, you will not get far in life. Whether the risk turns out good or bad at the end, the point is you tried. You never know what comes next. You should try new things and see where it takes you. I’m not saying you should always take risks, but if you don’t take some, then you don’t know what could of happened.

Lastly, I put responsibility as my last important value because it is really important. I mean think about it, if you goof around all the time and don’t focus on your life and what you need to do, then you better start trying. It’s important if you want to succeed in life. Responsibility makes you accountable for your actions whether they are good or bad. It’s provides a sense of purpose and determination.

The three least important values I picked are innovation, integrity and spiritual growth. Before I write my reason, let me just say I know they are still very important values, but in my opinion there are more important values that should come first.

Firstly, I picked innovation as one of my least important values because I get that you should try new thing, but if it will jeopardize something important, then maybe settle down on it. I know I said it’s important to take risks, but you always have to think of consequences and just not jump right into a new thing and it’s also more of a calculated risk. Also, if what your doing is working well, then you should not strategize more into it, unless you really want to and believe it could work, or you have to. Just be careful on what you do.

My second least important risk is integrity because even though you should stay true to yourself and don’t let others talk you down, there can be some down sides in staying true to yourself all the time. For example, most of the time when you believe in yourself, it all reflects on your emotions. Your emotions change all the time and you can’t control them. So, your emotions can reflect on how you act and that can be dangerous depending on your life. And listen, I’m not saying you shouldn’t believe in yourself because I 100% think you should, but I just think you should always think through what to do real hard before doing it and thinking if it’s the right choice.

Lastly, I picked spiritual growth because in my opinion it’s one of the least important value on the list. I know it’s important to grow as one and seek connection, but I just don’t see what’s that important to enrich the human experience in a multifaceted ways. I actually don’t know much about spiritual growth in general to find what’s so important about it, but maybe I just have to experience it myself.

I agree with my results. I think my statements are good and describe why I think they are the most and least important values. Sure, there are probably some values missing, but I think it’s a pretty good list with good points so I don’t know what other important values we could put. An example of one of the values I put is whenever I’m in the wrong. Like sometimes, when I’m in a argument with someone and I’m in the wrong, its hard for me to take responsibility, but when I do, It shows that I’m making in improvement and that the person is also respecting me for it. A future situation where I could put one of my most important values into a action. An example for this is doing something that you are terrified of doing, whether that is speaking in front of others or skydiving. You still risk it and see that its not so bad as you think. Value: Risk      Future situation: Taking the risk

One of the goals that I think aligns with my values is quality education. I picked this goal because all of the important values I picked, I picked them based on education/future and how they help. One of the goals that I am passionate about is life on land. And an action I’m doing is doing a bottle drive with my friends to clean the environment and donate the money we make to Wildlife Rescue Association of BC.
