About me – Ariana Rehmat

My name is Ariana Rehmat and I am 14 years old. I live in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada and I attend Charles Best Secondary School.

My family consists of my dad, my mom and my 18 year old sister. I have a good relationship with my family as we are always there for each other. My sister has always been there to share her interests, help me in school and guide me in my life. My sister is truly my hero in my life. I do not know what I would do without her contagious positive energy, her stories and her hilarious jokes. She is my perfect definition of a best friend, as she has always been there for me and her loyalty shines through. I believe all relationships should have the same amount of loyalty and honesty. My parents have always supported me no matter what I do as they are always proud of me.

Some of our traditions are based around our religion, Islam. We attend our religious centre weekly and participate in celebrations and traditions. I volunteer for my religious community at least twice a week, by cleaning, mentoring children and tutoring. Much of my life is based from my values and ethics that I have learnt from all the role models in my life that I had growing up. I had leaders in my religious centre that helped me grow into the leader that I am today. My religious community has always been a good demonstration of community to me. I have learnt the importance of helping and leading the next generation, so that they have people that they can look up to. Our values in our community, such as loyalty, humility and respect, are values that are important to me in my everyday life. They are a big part of who I am and who I aspire to be. My current place in my community is helping the next generation of kids that can grow up learning the same ethics and values to pass down to the next generation.

Some of my interests include, watching sports, reading, spending time with my family, playing sports and researching my interests. My favourite sport to watch is ice hockey and my favourite team is the Vancouver Canucks. I have supported this team for a while as I stay loyal to the team through their ups and downs. I have grown to follow this sport, the players and the teams. This team has become a big part of my personality and it feels as if I am supporting more than a sport or a team, but the real players behind the helmets, that I would follow anywhere. Getting to know the players and what they are really going through, makes the whole experience so much more entertaining. The electric energy in an arena from the support of the fans is an unmatchable feeling.

I play two sports, that include ice hockey and field hockey. I have been playing ice hockey for a couple years, but I mostly play for fun. I have been playing field hockey since I was 5 and I don’t plan on stopping soon. I love testing the levels of my competitiveness in my sports and I love being part of a team. I have been playing team sports since a kid, so I understand the importance of supporting your team and being unselfish. I understand the skill of improvement and hard work as I would also want to be the worst player on the best team as I know that I will always be ambitious and resourceful, until I can reach the top. Playing this sport is one of my biggest strengths, not only for the play on the field, but it also reflects some of my attributes that stay with me off the field. I can practice my strengths of hard work and ambition that I show on and off the field. I know that nothing is going to be handed to me and I have to work hard to stay motivated, educated and successful. I am lucky to have these strengths that guide my life and that I understand will help me enormously in my future.

If I could have any career right now, I would be a cognitive neuroscientist. They study the bran and how it relates to human behaviour. I have done a lot of research in this area and it is the reason that I am in the Butterfly Effect. I want to discipline myself to keep learning and researching, because this is a topic that I truly enjoy and that I can see myself doing in the future. I always knew that I wanted my career to help others and with this career I can help a cause that I care about, mental health. I believe that nobody is to be blamed for their actions and that we are all positively or negatively influenced throughout our lives. I would like to use this course to improve my knowledge on this topic and to help me in my future. I believe there are answers out there and with a little more awareness, this problem could be helped.
