Welcome back to my blog! For my final post of this year, I am going to be reflecting on this semester’s action project that I have recently completed. For this action project, me and a small group of my classmates went over to Meadowbrook Elementary to give a presentation about recycling, and how it benefits our Earth.
To start off this reflection, I am going to be talking about a challenge that I had to overcome with this project. A challenge that I had was finding a way to make the presentation more engaging and interactive for the kids. I wanted this project to include a hands-on activity for the kids to do so they could solidify their learning and have fun. In the end, we decided to make a game for them, where they had to race to sort different recycling items into the right bins. We rewarded them with pencils and erasers of their choice, and the game went really well. All the kids were engaged and interactive and had great participation.
Something that went well with this project was the kid’s engagement with it. Going into it, we weren’t sure how this presentation would go over and if the kids would be interested in learning about recycling or not, but we really lucked out, and they were all very engaged and interested and already knew quite a bit about recycling and climate change because they were learning about it in class. They were all active in the discussions that we had, and they were eager to ask questions and listen to what we had to say.
Overall, this presentation and action project were huge successes. We could not have asked for a better group of kids to present to, and it was a very rewarding and fun experience. From doing this action project, I learned about the importance of persistence and following through on your ideas, because my group and I came up with this idea and were able to excecute it, and that is a very satisfying feeling.
