Blog Post #3- Community Volunteering Update

Hi everyone, I just want to apologize for the tardyness of my last post quickly, I had a family emergency. Everything is well now and I’m back to posting!

As some of you may remember, I am continuing my project from the first semester and carrying it into the second semester, intending to help schools in my community through volunteering. My action project has not stopped. I have volunteered to help students train for relay races in the morning and have committed to helping chaperone and bring energy to an elementary school dance. I am very excited about that. Finding opportunities that fit my busy schedule can always be a struggle, but I try my best. I have not had too many opportunities but as the school year ends I expect to be able to find more in the community.

As I mentioned, I recently volunteered with a local school to help students train for relay races. This included helping them stretch, warm up, run, cool down as well as learn how to pass the baton to the next runner and get out of the way for the following runners. One difficulty I faced with this was when a student finished his lap and walked to cool down. While standing behind one of the teachers, he sat down on a rock and was too dizzy and nauseous to get up. We had to pick him up and lay him on the ground for a few minutes before walking him back into the school to get his belongings. It was difficult to keep the other students from trying to help their friend, but I managed to start a cool-down game away from the child.

As mentioned before, I plan to continue to help the community around me by volunteering and helping students make memories and have been actively helping through my leadership class.

Until next time!

Claire
