Blog Post #3

Hey everyone and welcome back to my third blog post! For my main inquiry question, I chose to discuss “How and Why Does Music Impact Our Lives, and In What Way?”. In this post, I chose one of my three sub-topics to further explain its relation to my main question. The sub-topic I chose today is “How does music impact and change people’s lives? Can this be a positive or negative change?”. As previously stated in my last blog post, by understanding how music affects our minds, I will be able to understand why it’s important in our lives. This question will help me see different perspectives and help me make an educated guess about how music can affect someone’s life overall.

To begin, music is a commonly known stress reliever. Medically proven research displays that listening to music is a common way to help reduce anxiety and pain. Additionally, some music is known for helping people keep a healthy sleep pattern and mood cycle (1). Due to its relation to the brain music affects people in different ways. This can impact our behaviours and actions (1). Music can be a way to improve your spirits and brighten your mood. Another way music can change your life or impact your mood is through music therapy (2). Music therapy is used to help people reach their social, and emotional goals (2). Listening to a song or musical rhythm can completely change one’s mood, perspectives and way of living. Music has the ability to change your life through perspective. Because of how it affects your mood, music helps us remember certain things. Music is something that stays with you for your whole life and helps you feel seen. It can help us remember our best memories and happiest moments, which we can’t afford to forget. The feeling of listening to your favourite song on repeat is truly unbeatable. Listening to certain music can transfer you into another state of mind. Moreover, listening to a new song or artist can help you see the world from another point of view (3). It also helps put you into the right headspace and helps give you the motivation to do anything you put your mind to. Music is a form of expression. Through music, you can show and describe to someone how you’re feeling and the troubles you’re facing (3). On the contrary, some music can remind you of certain memories, moments or things you wanted to forget (4). Listening to sad songs can also cause you to feel upset or activate negative thoughts. However, a majority of people believe it has more positive effects than negative. Overall, the effect music has on our lives is positive and inspiring. To conclude this inquiry post, music has a way of altering our lives and changing our perspectives for the better. No matter what, music is something that connects everyone together despite any differences. Due to its vast variety of genres, artists and instruments, almost everyone finds a way to enjoy some component of music in general.
