Blog #7: Reflection
- What challenges did you overcome throughout this inquiry project? How did you go about
overcoming these challenges?
In the process of completing my inquiry project, my biggest challenges were finding recent, reliable sources for my research as well as making connections between optical illusions and personality. There weren’t a ton of recent studies about optical illusions especially when it came to gathering theories about them. A way that I overcame these challenges was by changing how I was researching my topic. Instead of directly searching the inquiry question itself, I tried to be more specific. For example, instead of, “How do optical illusions tell us about our personalities?”, I would search, “What is the connection between optical illusions and personality traits?”. For my inquiry, it was vital that I had a firm foundation to understand how optical illusions function. Eventually, I was also able to use articles and journals from Goggle Scholar to find abstract studies and find all my resources needed.
2. How did this inquiry change the way you think?
My inquiry project impacted the way I think because I had to create an essential question followed by three guiding questions. It allowed me to think deeper into my question and the subjects surrounding it such as psychology and science. It changed the way I think by strengthening my research skills and learning how to broaden the scope of my inquiry. Since my inquiry did not have one, solid answer, I saw my question from different perspectives. This further changed how I think in my inquiry because when there isn’t an exact answer, I had to summarize all the information found and come to a conclusion myself. Some research supported that optical illusions can analyze personality traits while others stated that optical illusions are merely silly visuals. With both of those statements in mind, the end of this inquiry project allowed me to formulate my own interpretation.
3. How did this investigation impact your future decisions?
This investigation affected how I execute my research by enabling me to dig deeper into the internet and use other platforms besides safari. I was able to use google scholar and find research journals online. This will impact my future decisions in future projects when I need to look for reliable sources. Also, while researching about optical illusions, I also did research on personality traits which helped me obtain knowledge analyzing the personalities of other people. Optical illusions are not the best determining factor about a person’s personality. Those tests cannot be 100% accurate about every part of you, so it’s important to do other things that will help you learn more about yourself.
4. What impact will this investigation have on others locally and/or globally?
My inquiry project is not a groundbreaking discovery. Optical illusions have been around for centuries, whether it be intentional or not. However, this investigation about optical illusions will not have a significant impact on others locally or globally, it shows that you shouldn’t always believe everything you see on the internet even if it claims that it will determine whether your an introvert or extrovert. Discovering parts about yourself and more largely your personality, is best found when you’re living in the world around you and outside, instead of a test on our screens.
Thank You!
