Blog #7 – Is social media good or bad for education?

In my final blog post, I will be adressing three reflection questions.

  1. What challenges did you overcome throughout this inquiry project? How did you go about overcoming these challenges?
There were many challenges that I had to overcome during this journey. One of them was when I had to find data filled sources for the screen time part of my inquiry question. It was very difficult to find a reliable source that accurately and smoothly shows data and analysis in a readable and understandable manner. To overcome this challenge, I had to search through many websites, and also check the sources that Wikipedia used to find a reliable one.

2. How did this inquiry change the way you think?
This inquiry changed how I thought about the people who used social media. Before, I followed many stereotypes about people who used social media, such as how everybody used TikTok, or how many old people use Facebook. With my newfound knowledge, however, I discovered that it is actually facebook that is used by many people and that it is not just old people that use it. For example, many young people used Facebook to protest for Egypt in 2011.

3.  How did this investigation impact your future decisions?
This investigation will impact my future decisions by making me aware of how much time people spend on social media and how this time period is rising. It will also make me aware of the content on social media and be mindful to stay on educational material when I should be.

4. What impact will this investigation have on others locally and/or globally?
This impact will show others how they are implicated with social media and how they are influenced by it by looking at their activities. This will also show them how much of their lives revolve arounf social media and it will show them what kind of person they are from their preferred content.

I would like to thank everyone who followed me through this journey that I experienced throughout all of my seven blog posts, and I look forward to doing more with Butterfly Effect!
