Blog Post #3 Model United Nations!

1.) Where are you with your action? (e.g. what involvement have you had so far? Describe with examples)

I have already went to 3 MUN conferences this year, the first one being the CAHSMUN Horizons, where I not only acted as the head delegate of the school, but also brought home the “Outstanding delegate” award. Here are some photos of the conference:

2.) What are some successes that you have had? Provide specific examples.

My successes include the various weekly mock-conferences that we have had, along with the awards that I have brought home from the conferences.

(This is where I served as a delegate to help spark more debate):

3.) What are some challenges that you have faced? Have you been able to overcome them? If so, how? Provide specific examples. If not, can you problem-solve some ideas that might work for next time or if a similar situation arises? Again, provide specific examples.

One of the biggest problems that we have had in MUN leadership was establishing proper communication between both the leaders and the delegates. Especially shown at the Cahsmun conference, trying to find a time when 15 people are all available and willing to gather together for briefings can be hard prior to conference. Moreover, with the conference itself being a little disorganized, it became almost impossible for me to communicate specific expectations to the delegates and my co-leaders properly. To solve this, I often had to come up with solutions on the spot, to try to have delegates evenly spread out and reporting to each co-leader, and establish proper communications between the leaders, where we can reiterate the message more easily to the delegates.

Another problem that we had was the limited time, with only 1 hour for dinner at CAHSMUN Horizons, all restaurants were booked full, the only option we had was a restaurant 4 blocks away, and it did not take reservations. To ensure that everyone would have food, I ran in full suits with dress shoes across the 4 blocks, circled the mall 3 times because the Google Maps had misplaced the restaurant behind a wall, but eventually arrived in line, ensuring that all of the delegates who are coming would have a seat. Coincidentally, right as I had became the first in line and two big tables clearing out, all of the delegates and the sponsor teacher had arrived, all is well.
4.) What are you doing next and why?

For the next weeks, I will be participating in the weekly mock-conferences as a delegate to spark more debates, I will be starting to train the candidates for running the MUN club next year, and I will be head delegating the CAIMUN conference that is coming in May! I decided to join the debates as I saw the lack of passion in peoples speeches, what is a better way to show people how it is done besides demonstrating it myself! Alongside that, though the MUN club performance have been exceptional this year, I do not want the club to die after we leave the school, which is why I have already picked the future leaders for next year and begun training for them! Moreover, with CAIMUN approaching, I will continue to work on its details and logistics along with the BESTMUN leadership team, and to ensure the best experience possible for everyone!

Let diplomacy begin!
