Semester 1 Inquiry: This semester, I will be exploring how physiological stress takes a toll on digestive system, and why it is so important to address before health implications become inevitable. What causes digestive issues, and is any of it within our control?

The argument that stress takes a toll on various bodily systems can be extended much further than the digestive system alone. The detriments of physiological stress can create somewhat of a domino effect that in turn, promotes this issue as a means of stirring up disease across the entire body. However, for the purposes of this semester-long inquiry, I wish to answer the question with regards to the digestive system, since that is an issue I have previously dealt with. With little more than anecdotal evidence causing researches to take note of such a phenomenon, it makes me wonder, how much of our day-to-day gastrointestinal issues can be traced back to stress?

From a scientific perspective, what about stress illicit problems with the digestive tract? This question is incredibly subjective as stress can have negative affects on different parts of the human body. Nevertheless, researching to find an answer is the best starting point. Beginning with a scientific explanation to helping expand general knowledge of this relatable topic will provide people with reasons as to why they continue to struggle with digestive issues despite numerous efforts to control it.

Thank you for reading, and I hope this topic resonates with an aspect of your life that you find important to learn about!
