Hello and welcome back to my blog! My Inquiry question for Semester 2 is “What does it mean to ‘live in the moment,’ and how can we actively focus on embracing the little things in life?”

I chose to do a topic regarding mindfulness as I am very interested in the art of trying to be fully aware in the present moment. I believe that it’s vital to disconnect from the digital world whenever possible, and truly focus on embracing what we have, never taking anything for granted. Especially nowadays, with so many distractions and challenges we face in life, sometimes people forget about the little things that bring the most joy to our lives. Personally, whenever I read my past journal entries, I always find a common pattern being that whenever I note the small things that happened during the day, my happiness level for the day increases drastically. Whether that be watching the sunrise, finishing an exhausting workout, or singing in the shower. All of these seemingly unsignificant moments in our day can surprisingly boost our mood by releasing positive emotions.

Most memories are made when people actively live in the moment and spend time in the environment with nature. Nobody recalls the moments spent endlessly scrolling online, but when we take an hour or two aside from our day and focus on doing activities that will benefit our overall well-being, it can greatly improve happiness and self-esteem levels. When I recall memories made from when I was a child, I’m slowly starting to realize that most of my favourite memories aren’t even big, milestone events. The majority are smaller moments that sparked joy, where I start to ask myself, “How do I even remember this?” It’s funny to think about how we associate so much delight to such unexpected moments. This really goes to show that doing activities out of spontaneity can lead to lifelong memories.

I’m absolutely thrilled to be able to learn more about living in the moment and mindfulness. It is an art that I’m trying to incorporate more into my lifestyle. As a high school student, life can get pretty busy with a heavy workload involving assignments while also trying to balance extra-curricular activities. So, educating myself further about living in the present moment and embracing the people and things I have in my life can definitely improve my well-being. I am looking forward to discovering more about this topic in blog posts to come!

Thank you very much for reading, and I hope that this topic relates to a characteristic of your life that you find important!
