Hello there! I am glad to tell you about myself. My name is Preston Mwangi, but people call me Piston. This fills me with joy because I feel like one of the champions who have won the Piston’s Cup. I am 16 years old, and I live in Kenya, Laikipia County, in a place called Marura. This is the third-largest agricultural producer in my country. I study at Thome Boys High School, which is not far from my local area. My school is the best place for academics and sports, thanks to a good learning environment and high competition among students.
According to my understanding, the word “community” means a place where people live and do their daily activities as a society. In my community, individual mental and physical growth is the main goal for everyone. My community provides a better growing environment from a young age to adulthood. Wrong actions are acted upon with immediate response, not by everyone, but by the elders of the community. They decide on the kind of punishment to be given to the person who made the mistake. During difficult times, I have trained myself to relax by either taking a deep breath or listening to cool music.
One of the reasons I joined the Butterfly Effect program is that I like expressing myself to others. I also love writing, and this encouraged and motivated me to join the program. I came to know about the Butterfly Effect through Ol Pejeta Conservancy, which is near my home area. I am a Christian. The main type of food consumed in my community is rice and green beans. This meal continues to evolve, passing from one generation to the next, with new ingredients being discovered that give it a new taste.
If I could have any job right now, it would be in engineering. I prefer engineering because I get to innovate and build spectacular structures that everyone can be amazed by due to their uniqueness. Even though I haven’t reached the level of studying engineering yet, I still do small research through the internet. If I could solve a global problem, it would be corruption. This is because most of the suffering people go through on a day-to-day basis is supported by corruption as its backbone. Corruption has been fueled by practices from the highest government ranks down to the lowest. This has resulted in a decrease in development in countries and also in individual status. I have encountered many situations where corruption has taken place, and the result is always that people with power and wealth get all the attention, leaving the oppressed in a very difficult situation, often stressed to the point of wanting to commit suicide.
I welcome you to walk with me as we interact in many areas along the program.
