ABOUT ME POST: MURIUKI MAURICE WANJOHI

About me post

Hello! Maurice is my name, and I am 16 years old. I am a student at Thome Boys Secondary School. I live in Nanyuki, in Laikipia County, Kenya. This is my first year participating in the Butterfly Effect Program. My favorite subject in school is Geography. I am interested in learning more about the Earth, the solar system, and the universe. It is quite captivating to learn about the history of astronomers who studied the universe a long time ago.

I found out about the Butterfly Effect program through the Ol Pejeta Conservancy department and from the teachings of my parents and teachers. I am passionate about research and hope to learn more about it through the program.

I would love to travel to different countries and interact with people from different localities. I love traveling, as it helps me explore new cultures and ways of life. Going on adventures and stepping out of my comfort zone sounds like a great experience.

Singing competitions, dancing, and watching movies, especially horror, are among the activities I enjoy doing with my elder sister when we’re at home during our free time. Joking, sharing life experiences, and discussing the best trending facts are other things I like to do with my family and friends.

As a Kikuyu, our traditional food is a mixture of maize, known as githeri. The funny thing is, I’m not much of a fan of the meal. Instead, I love rice and some milk, and I’ve loved it since I was a child. In our community, some foods are believed to be from the elders. For example, sweet potatoes and arrowroot are believed to be from our grandmothers. Respect is one of the best etiquette shown by an individual. The father is considered the head of the family and the controller of almost everything. Younger ones are expected to respect their parents and elders by undertaking chores. Sharing is an important aspect of our community. It is not based on age, size, or tribe, but everyone is given an equal opportunity.

Through the Butterfly Effect program, I hope to get to know the lifestyle, culture, traditions, and norms of people around the world. My hero is Edward Aston, who was in charge of an international team that discovered 62 new moons around Saturn.

I welcome you to follow me as we reach greater heights in education. I hope you now know a little about me. Thank you.
