Taking Action for the Environment: Teaching Kids About Recycling

Hi everyone welcome to my blog post #4! I’m excited to share some updates about my action project, even though it’s coming a little later than I planned (sorry about that!). I was waiting for confirmation from local elementary schools to schedule our visits, and I’m thrilled to announce that we’ve secured one school where we’ll be teaching kids about the environment and recycling next week!

1. Where Am I With My Action?
So far, I’ve been busy organizing the lesson plans and activities we’ll use to engage the kids. We’re focusing on fun, hands-on ways to teach the importance of recycling and how small changes can make a big difference for the planet: while also incorporatingwhile also incorporating the concerns that harm our planet. I’ve also worked on coordinating with teachers to fit these lessons into their schedules.

2. Successes So Far
A big success has been getting a school on board! After reaching out to several schools, it’s great to have one confirm our visit. I’ve also finalized the materials we’ll use, including visual aids and a fun recycling sorting game that kids will love.

3. Challenges and Solutions
One challenge has been the delay in hearing back from schools, which pushed our timeline a bit. To overcome this, I made follow-up calls and offered flexible scheduling, which helped us secure a school this week. Another challenge is the limited time we have for the sessions, so I’ve condensed the lessons to fit the time we’re given while still making them impactful and engaging.

4. What’s Next?
Next, I’ll focus on delivering the lessons this week and evaluating how the kids respond. Afterward, I plan to gather feedback from the teachers to improve future sessions. I’ll also reach out to other schools to expand the project and keep spreading the word about recycling.

Thanks for following along on this journey—let’s make a difference together! 🌍

  1. Hi Dara,
I really enjoyed reading your blog post and think that what you are doing is great. I like how you organized your post by using numbers and headings instead of writing random paragraphs. I love that you are planning to receive feedback from the teachers to improve your lessons, it really shows how much you genuinely care! One thing I would recommend is that you visit various sites to see the best teaching methods for kids to really help them learn as much as they can.
