My story idea for this semester is a study on friends.
SPOILER WARNINGS AHEAD
As stated this will contain spoilers because this is my 5-minute rambling summary. The characters Avery and Caris are neighbors and best friends, until they go to different high schools. Avery finds a job coaching fencing and contacts Caris less and less. Caris is pondering this while biking in a park with her boyfriend, and notices too late that she is speeding down a hill. Her bike’s front wheel crashes into a rock, and Caris is catapulted into the air. Thankfully, she was wearing a helmet, but she still gets a concussion. Avery goes to see Caris, but Caris does not recognize her, only thinking that Avery vaguely resembles Skye (Avery’s sister). To regain her memories, Caris and Avery agree to undergo an experimental procedure that will connect their minds that represent different parts (logic, creativity, etc) and allow Avery to try to find the memories of her in Caris’s head. Avery meets various figures in Caris’s subconsciousness and realizes that these figures are the ones preventing Caris from remembering Avery, because they want to spare Caris the hurt of Avery’s absence. The concussion had shaken Caris’s memories, and while her subconscious had put most of Caris’s memories back in place, they purposefully left the memories of Avery in a box. Caris’s subconsciousness figures do not replace the memories until Avery begs and convinces them that Caris is important to her, and she won’t hurt Caris like that again.
