About me

By Laura

Hey! My name is Laura on the birth certificate, and I go by this name as well. My dad was obsessed with a character from Little House on the Prairie: Laura Ingalls Wilder. That’s how I was named. Not very cool. I think she was a white woman.

I’m currently 17 years old and am living here in Coquitlam, BC Canada. I go to Dr. Charles Best Secondary and my favorite subject is art! I plan on becoming an illustrator in the future.

My family is traditionally Chinese, so we share lots of values that are slightly out dated as well. Chinese culture is extremely heavy on respecting your elders, being polite, and caring for your family. In China, same sex marriage is illegal. However, this doesn’t prevent its citizens from forming LGBTQ+ relationships – they just can’t make it official. Social media is restricted as well (I was hocked to find I could not access Instagram) but we always find our own ways to have fun on local platforms with some pretty heinous jokes.

One of my passions is art. People are probably tired of my talking about art – but truly, I’m obsessed with it. Not only is it fun, free therapy, and self expression, it’s also a viable career choice. I’m often worried I won’t earn enough money to support myself following my passions, but if you want to earn lots of money, you have to make it big in any career path. Plus, being an illustrator is far less treacherous than being a visual or gallery artist.

My dream art school is Rhode Island School of Design. It’s a pretty prestigious private school near New York with diabolical tuition and an unreasonably high GPA line. Overall, the dream school is truly a dream – we’ll see if I make it!

I would answer a deep, in depth question about global issues and communities, but I’m really just a shallow person. So, I’m going to talk about what I like to do in my free time. In my free time, I usually spend it playing Brawl Stars (I’m not THAT good), Dress to Impress, or binge watching a few Markiplier videos. My greatest achievement is probably going through his entire Subnautica playlist consisting of 80+ videos, and I’ve recently picked up on his FNAF Ruin series as well. I would actually say Ruin is better than the older Pizzaplex game. I miss when FNAF was actually scary and involved sitting in a room checking cameras. Now, it’s just every other open world story game.

That’s about it! Thank you so much for reading 😀
