blog post #4- recycling

Hi everyone my name is Dara! this is my fourth action blog post. Me and a couple other classmates teamed up into teaching younger kids the importance of recycling and how its supposed to be done as a little recap of what my project is. As if right now we have finished the presentation on PowerPoint. we tried to make the presentation very entertaining and memorable by putting more images then text. that way little kids find it engaging rather than boring. our biggest success so far is getting others to like our idea of recycling and be part of helping our planet that we call earth.

again our biggest challenges are contacting schools but it seems that more and more schools are interested and hope to have our dates down. another challenge we have faced is that elementary- aged kids have a shorter attention span meaning that we have to make the presentation as short and memorable as possible. the best way we overcame this is by putting more images than text and as well as having activities at the end.

Next we are going to make the activities and test them out with our siblings or family friends.

That’s it for today thankyou for reading my fourth blog post.

  1. Hello Dara,
It’s really cool that for your action you are going to help educate kids in different schools about recycling. It’s great that you are keeping in mind the kids short attention span to make the presentation something that they will actually pay attention to and remember. Another way to keep their attention is to ask them questions all throughout the presentation to keep them involved and more engaged. I am excited to hear about how your presentations at the schools go, good luck!

  2. Hi Dara,

I really enjoyed reading your blog post and your plan to teach children about recycling. It’s good that you thought about the short attention span of the children and your activities seem great. Something else that you could do to get them to pay attention is offering prizes for completing the activities or just by listening, that way they might feel motivated to pay attention. I look forward to seeing the results

  3. Hi Dara,

I really liked your idea of teaching children how to recycle, that way, we can spread awareness on pollution which they can then spread on to their children, thus spreading more awareness. It is also good that you turned something very boring for little children like a Powerpoint presentation into something that they would like and would actually listen to instead of just letting the information go from one ear out the other by adding creative and fun elements. I also liked how you created hands on activities so that the kids can gain knowledge and experience while having fun at the same time so that they can still remember the activity. One thing you can do to gain more people is to put out ads or ask community centers or libraries, as they host events like this very often.
