Hello everyone, welcome to my third blog of the second semester. Today, I will be addressing the first question out of the three that I posed for myself:
What are the good and bad traits of a society?
Good:
- A government:
Without a government, society physically cannot operate. There would be too many unregulated criminals, there would be no shared resources. It would be every man for themselves. A government also enforces laws that in general define what a society is. A government is like the backbone of a society, without it, society would crumble. Therefore, this is a good trait of society.
2. Technological Advancements:
In a society, we share ideas and materials, rendering it much much easier to advance and gain knowledge exponentially. Without a society, humans are essentially just regular animals with a heightened IQ. When they learn something, they might not pass on their knowledge or they might just pass it on to their offspring. This makes it so that humans do not gain shared knowledge, and they have to relearn what their ancestors learned, basically going full circle each generation. With a functional society, we would be able to share knowledge, with certain people learning different things to broaden our expertise. This leads to us becoming a much more advanced species, creating better living conditions and survivability.
3. Efficiency:
Each individual has more knowledge in certain subjects than others and have more skill in said subject. In these cases, they may get a job in this category and provide others with their fruits of labor. This overall puts the experts in each of their categories and makes gathering resources much more efficient. For example, if you were an accountant, you could not hunt or gather for food, but you eat anyways. Why? Because we have certain people doing the hunting and gathering for you so that you can work on your job.
Bad:
- Corruption:
Unfortunately, with government comes corruption. In most cases, when people obtain power, they often become corrupted and injust. When this happens, they either siphon like leeches off the mutual gainings of the society, or they completely take over and society becomes a dictatorship. These are all bad because we are losing what defines a society; a fair and just government.
2. Disease:
In societies, people are clumped together in a sort of colony, instead of being spread apart wandering. This leads to the spread of diseases to run rampant, with seasons of sickness and possibly even waves of death in the form of pandemics.
This concludes my blog post. I hope everyone enjoyed reading and I can’t wait to post the next one!
