I was inspired to do this research because I noticed assistant teachers are very helpful in my classroom. For example, my chemistry assistant teacher is very beneficial in our classroom. She provides a different learning perspective than a teacher because she has different teaching styles. For example, my chemistry teacher is a Kinesthetic learner, so he provides us with interactive hands-on activities. Moreover, when my assistant teacher teaches, she teaches us how to format our notes concisely. I noticed many of my classmates like having a variety of different learning styles in the classroom. However, I learned that many teachers choose not to take in an assistant teacher. This is because many teachers are not financially compensated for teaching new teachers to become great teachers. This may be because of the risk of gaining a less engaged assistant teacher, so it may become a burden for the veteran teachers. By researching this question, I hope to help the students learn productively with many possible resources.
I am also wanting to learn the different ways students learn. I understand there are four different learning styles (kinesthetic learners, visual learners, auditory learners and reading/writing learners.) I hope to become more knowledgeable on what these topics mean, so I can extend my learning ability. Furthermore, I also hope to learn more about the roles of an assistant teacher. I am researching more about becoming a teacher, so I may be an assistant teacher. I hope to learn more about how to become a great assistant teacher, so I can motivate the teachers and the students. I am also wanting to know the positive and negative effects of assistant teachers in a classroom. This will help me know if I should share my voice with the Ministry of Education if assistant teachers more positively impact the classroom. This will help me give a non-biased answer, which will create a more accurate result.
Thank you,
Sarah Kim
