Hello, all!
Welcome back to my blog. I have previously shared my experience of volunteering at a local elementary school and my challenges within it. Unfortunately, I still have yet to hear from the PAC about future opportunities, but I recently volunteered with a local medical center and was able to help run a Christmas party with them. I was in charge of the children’s table, so even though I was not able to volunteer with the school I normally do, this opportunity was just as much fun!
It was very fun to take pictures at the complimentary photo booth with some of the kids to take home as a souvenir from the event. We had a small room off to the side with a TV for music and shows as well as plenty of toys and games to play, including a couple of rounds of Duck Duck Goose! I always seem to be so eager to be at the kid’s table because kids like to tell you directly how they feel, unlike teenagers and adults who seem to prefer to hint at it. I also assisted in taking photos with Santa Claus for the families.
It was a small challenge when it came to sharing a certain toy between two children. I resolved this by occupying them both with a game they could play together and moving the original toy out of their sightlines for the time being. By the time one of them had found the original toy again, the other had left.
I was so grateful to have been given that opportunity and can’t wait to volunteer with that group again. I have yet to hear from the elementary school i typically volunteer with, however when I was tutoring one of the students, his mother, who is part of the PAC, did mention the possibility of some upcoming events for spring.
Thank you for reading and I hope you tune in for my next post!
Hi Claire,
I really liked reading your blog post. I think that your action project sounds really great and it sounds like you are doing a great job of being active in the community and giving back in good ways. I’m interested in doing an action project as my next project for this class and reading about your project inspired me. I’m excited to read your next blog post and I hope you hear back from the elementary school soon!
Great work!

hey Claire,
Great blog post!! LOVED all the visuals you included!!
even though you haven’t heard back from the PAC I love how you still pursued helping out at a local medical centre, that definitely expresses your determination and passion to help others!
It was really cool to see you share your challenge as well with those two kids and how you resolved the issue, I know working with kids can be hard as I volunteer on Sunday mornings with kids church and some times resolving things can be difficult, so you should definitely proud of your self for accomplishing that!
I would love to see some photos from your volunteering events, and I feel this could add a really nice touch to your project!!
Can’t wait to see your next post, hope you hear from the elementary school soon,

Hey Claire!
I truly admire the passion you have for this topic as well as your perseverance to find opportunities that align with your values! Throughout your post, it is evident that you like to work with kids in your future and it shows throughout your action project.
Although I am not pursuing an action project myself, I was wondering about your opinion on the method. Would you say the most difficult part would be finding opportunities, or learning to work with children?
Again, although I’m not familiar with the concept myself, here are some sources that could help with finding opportunities in this field, and hopefully help you with your future in this field.

– This is a great resource for volunteering opportunities if you want to work in recreation centers, helping students and learning more about working in this field.

– working within the district both in paid and volunteering opportunities that will lengthen your experience in this field.

– This page allows you to find opportunities for volunteering within the Vancouver school board, specifically some great elementary schools in which you could be interested.
I loved reading your post and I can’t wait to see what other opportunities you will come across,

Hi Claire,
Great Blog Post! I love how you overcame your problem with communication with the PAC at the elementary school you’re helping by choosing to volunteer for another cause. I love the detail you included when mentioning your responsibilites and duties within volunteering. I find it awesome how you have a passion for volunteering with children, regardless of what the setting may look like!
It would have been great to see some of the pictures you took in the Photo Booth with some of the children, or even a picture of you photographing the kids pcitures with Santa.
I also love working with children as they enlighten your day so I’m gald to hear we have some common passions! And if you ever have trouble finding somewhere to volunteer at, the Coquitlam Public Library has some great options involving helping children with their education and development across many different age groups.
I look forward to reading your future Blog Posts and best of luck with volunteering!

Hi Claire,
Your volunteer experience sounds like so much fun. For my leadership class, I volunteered to help set up a Christmas market at Baker Elementary which is pretty similar to what you did. We had to sort toys out and set them up on tables. I thought I would also be part of selling to the kids. However, I was not able to see any of the kids. I was pretty excited to see the little kids, however I still felt good to be part of setting up this market for the kids. A question I have is: Were there any challenges to keep all the kids under control? I feel like it would have been a bit chaotic. I also like how you resolved the issue of kids wanting the same toy. I would probably felt too overwhelmed with so many kids. This is a link for other volunteer opportunities: https://www.coqlibrary.ca/#

Hi Claire,
Great blog post!! I loved how you included both the highlights and challenges of your volunteer experience. I think this sounded like a great opportunity to learn new things and it seems like a fun experience. I think being an active member of your community is important and a great way to help others. I also love volunteering and hope to volunteer more in the future! I also wonder was it easy to take care of all of the kids? And did you volunteer alone or were there other people there to help you? I can’t wait to read more blog posts in the future!
