With my action project so far I did a park clean-up in Mariner Park. I invited my friend Sydney to help me collect garbage. We walked around for 1 hour picking up litter on Saturday morning.
One success I had with this action project was finding a lot of garbage. This is because the park I went to was right next to an elementary school and a lot of younger kids don’t care about properly disposing their garbage. This leads them to just throw it on the ground. Also, a success I had was finding a friend to come and help me with my project. The reason this was a success is because all my friends have busy schedules, so I was glad I found someone who had time to come and help me. Another success was the weather was not that bad when we went out on Saturday so me and my friend were able to stay out longer before the rain started.
A challenge I faced was picking up the litter effectively because I was only wearing gloves and each time I had to bend down to pick a piece up. I can overcome this by getting a trash picker, so I can easily grab garbage with it. Another challenge that occurred was time management this is because me and my friends both have busy schedules, so it’s hard to find a time when we are both free. If this obstacle occurs in the future again I will overcome it by creating a schedule to stay organized. Lastly, an obstacle I faced was dressing appropriately for the weather because even though it wasn’t raining it was still cold. Next time I will overcome this by double-checking the weather on an app and planning my outfit accordingly.
Next for my action project, I plan to go to Mundy Park to pick up garbage. This is because it is close to my school. Hopefully, I will be able to bring more than one friend because there is a lot of ground to cover. Also, I need to find a day when the weather is decent because it is starting to get colder and rainy outside.
