Blog Post #1 – What is Time?

Blog #1: This semester, I will be doing an Inquiry project on the concept of time, subjectivity, and what it means to be a certain age.

The concept of time and how it affects the brain is a topic that has been studied for decades. We are surrounded by time, but how does it actually function? It seems to permeate everything, seemingly keeping the world on its axis and preventing society from becoming mush. Time only seems to advance, how does this connect to aging and acquisition of knowledge?

Over the course of this semester, I hope to delve deeper into what it means to exist in a world that revolves around time, and how that translates to differences in time concept throughout the universe. This universal topic is the sole foundation that initiates purpose in our lives, fostering the ability to associate numerical values with the things that resonate with us all.

Thank you for reading and I cannot wait to continue to inform on this subject matter!

  1. Hi Ava,

Great work with thoroughly explaining how time affects our daily life. I loved how you included that time helps us from exhaustion, creates a path for us to age and encourages us to progress our knowledge. I am also very interested in this question because I wish we would be able to access more activities at night because I feel more productive at night. Furthermore, I find it hard to manage my time with my activities while still finding the time to get enough sleep. Moreover, I feel time is such a hard concept to grasp because of the time zones in different countries and daylight saving time. Some questions I have for you are: what are positive and negative effects of time in our life? What will happen if time did not exist? Why did Sir Sanford Fleming create time zones?

  2. Hello Ava,

I must say, your choice of an inquiry project on the concept of time, subjectivity, and age is fascinating! Time is such a confusing concept, and the way it intertwines with our perception of age and knowledge acquisition is intriguing. Personally, I want to know more on this topic as I feel as though time is really moving so fast. I found your introductory thoughts on time and its role in our lives to be very engaging and I enjoyed reading your blog post. Some questions that you can consider in your research are: Can cultural and societal factors influence our perception of time and aging? And, are
there any philosophical or scientific theories that can provide insights into the relationship between time, subjectivity, and age?
