Question: Are supplements and supplementation necessary for our health and performance in the gym?
My question for my inquiry project is “Are supplements and supplementation necessary for our health and performance in the Gym?”, I had many reasons to why I choose this question.
My reason for choosing this question is due to my passions for the topic of fitness and the gym. I love having the knowledge of what can help me to improve my strength and reach my goals when it comes to performance. If I am able to increase my knowledge then I can slo help the people around me who might have questions. The gym has been a passion of mine for quite a few years now and the topic of supplements has always been something that has always really intrigued me. I look forward during this inquiry project to answer some of my questions I have about supplements and answer new questions that may arise during my research process! This is also a topic and area of interest for me as I hope to continue on in my future with an occupation in a similar area of study; for example, I hope to attend UBCO and study in the Bachelor of health of exercise sciences program!
Hey Mari,
This is such a fantastic blog post! I find your inquiry question very intriguing because as an athlete I also take supplements to help increase my endurance and recovery process. One supplement I have been taking lately is pre-workout before my basketball games. Furthermore, I also agree with you that it is important to increase your knowledge about the different types of supplements before taking them, so you are aware of all the side effects. A question I have for you is what age can you start taking the supplement creatine? Below I have provided some links that talk about the pros and cons of taking supplements which might help you with your next blog post.

Hey Mari,
Thank you for sharing your inquiry question. The topic of excercise and supplement intake is also a very relevant subject in my life as I am a fairly dedicated athlete and have spent years experementing with the many supplements and foods that go into my body. Over the years coaches, trainers, and teammates have helped and educated me on the importance of knowing what goes into your body and how things like supplments can help or harm your body. I hope your research helps you get a better idea on the positive and negative aspects of supplements and the healthy consumation and quantity of these suppplements.
While conducting you research I hope you are able to consider the question: How do the side effects of supplements differentiate depending on the individual that consumes them? Everyone is different and as a result will generally have a slightly different reaction to different supplements. Realizing and taking this into account will hopefully help you reach your conclusion.
While conducting your research, I would recommend you visit these sites to expand on your answer:

Hello Marisa,
What an exquisite inquiry topic! The fitness industry is constantly glorifying the use of performance enhancing supplements, so I love how passionate you are about digging deeper into how necessary these additives truly are. I specifically enjoyed your piece on how the health and fitness is a big passion of yours, making the results that come out of this process much more meaningful. I would love to know exactly how some of the most popular fitness supplements directly affect one’s health. What are some of the long-term consequences of repeated intake of pre-workout, creatine, and even protein bars? Nevertheless, fantastic job so far. Keep informing!

Hi Marisa,
I love this topic! My sister is actually studying health and exercise science at UBCO right now and is in her third year. I find it super important to gain a deeper understanding of these things if you are actively going to the gym.
I know my sister goes to the gym as much as possible and has developed a routine of what exercises she does as well as what type of nutrition and supplements she takes. From what she talks about, I would encourage you to focus some research on nutrition, and how the importance of the food you eat can affect the use of these supplements in a positive or negative way. Here’s a helpful article:

Overall this looks like an interesting topic and you’re definitely on the right track.
Best of luck! -Laura
Hi Marisa!
I love your topic so much, I feel like as a high schooler the gym culture and the various sub cultures like supplements, protein powders, pre workouts, etc can be so intimidating and discourage many our age, even though going to the gym has so many benefits that outweigh any of the cons.
Personally, I’ve also been interested in this topic and have struggled to get any clear answers, so I’m so excited to follow you through your research!
When I was doing my own research I found the before and after usage of supplements the most interesting as I am a more result oriented person as opposed to internal benefits. This way it is easier to cater to your readers as you move on throughout your research!
