Blog #1: Inquiry project
1. State your inquiry question. (Please refer to the Essential Questions page for examples)

To what extent do modern philosophers contribute to the advancement of human knowledge and understanding, and how does their work compare to the contributions of philosophers from the past?
2. Explain why this is a question of interest for you.

This is a question of interest for me because I find philosophy very interesting. I feel as though philosophers in the past were much more respected and well known than they are today. We can all name philosophers from the past such as Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, but most people struggle to name one modern day philosopher. Why is this, does philosophy play a less significant role in our life than it did in 300 BCE? I am wondering what modern philosophers are saying? Some argue that it’s less prevalent because everything has already been said, could this be true? Is there really a need for modern day philosophers?

  1. Hi Sammie!
I think this question is so open-ended and very true. People in our generation are so caught up in modern technology, they seem to forget about anything and everything else. Considering the fact that philosophy is the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, I am very excited to see if you are able to intertwine technology into one of your posts in the future.

So excited for your next post.

  2. Hello Sammie,
This question is one that compares the importance of certain people of different eras. Yes, it is super true that we know philosophys from the Renaissance period, mostly because then were importance figures in society, but the world has changed a lot since. Today, respected people tend to be the ones that have made an impace on society, since there are many problems in the world, it’s hard to know one name be known to many. Nowadays, almost everybody can speak out, write it out in a book, and post their opinions of anything to social media, but the problem is everyone can do that. But it was different around 300 BCE. People also have the right to cancel people they disagree or not have a liking to. One question that I have for you is, why and how did philosophers become less and less important to society, if it is not today? I am looking forward to seeing you post in the future!
