Hey everyone! My name is Mahdiya Adnan, and I am currently a grade eleven student at Dr. Charles Best Secondary. This is my third year taking this Social Responsibility class. The reason I keep taking this class is because I want to keep making a difference in my community. Also, I want to continue fundraising to help pay for a Kenyan school scholarship because it is changing our sponsor student’s life for the better.
I have done Action Projects for the last couple of years in this class. In grade nine, I volunteered with the founder of Project HELLO to help individuals experiencing homelessness in Vancouver. Moreover, in grade ten I volunteered at Hillcrest Middle School where I aided teachers in multiple classrooms.
Additionally, some of my passions outside of school include playing basketball and doing boxing. I play basketball both on a club team and a school team. The club team I play for is Excel. One athlete I look up to is Kyrie Irving because I admire his playing style, and his leadership skills on the court. I also enjoy listening to music, and my favorite musical artist is Future.
The quote I live by is “Talk Less, Do More.” The reason this quote resonates with me is because I believe that nowadays everyone wants change but when it’s time to be the change no one is willing to take the first step. I think the strongest trait I possess is determination because no matter how difficult things get, I always try to persevere through it.
Nevertheless, I am excited to do another Action Project this year and see how I can have a positive impact on my community.
