Blog post #2 – Research round 2

Hi everyone! Welcome to my blog. Today I will be continuing my research for my inquiry question this semester which is Fashion Throughout History. I will be looking at my questions more in depth today.

  1. Fashion compared to now vs. then:

In the previous round of research I did I explained how it was important that I know this information because one of the biggest details you will find in fashion is that many trends have recently been taking a nostalgic turn. Many people have said that fashion in 2012 took a scary and claimed that it is “growing scarier by the second” (1).

2. Why do fashions change over time?

Fashion is based on personality and who you are as a person (because why would you wear something you hate?) so the simple answer for this question would be that people change over time (2) . What they like can change very easily. We see this a lot with celebrities fashion and style. Some may go from darker colours and grungy style to a style that is lighter and more simple and sophisticated (2).

3. What impact do celebrities have on fashion?

In my last post I also mentioned that many celebrities and influencers have a large impact on fashion and have always had an impact in fashion and style. Many celebs have created a style for what you should wear to events, while taking a stroll on the street, or at home. Many people have also taken inspiration from celebs because they wear expensive things and live a luxurious life (who wouldn’t want that?!) (3). Celebrities also wear outfits to promote a brand and make people want to buy from whatever brand they are trying to promote and many people are huge fans of certain celebs and influencers and take so much influence that they want to dress and look like them. This is also why many brands use celebrities to promote their products (3).

  1. Hey Hannah!

Great job on your blog post about fashion throughout history! Comparing fashion now vs. then provides an interesting perspective, especially considering the nostalgic turn in recent trends. It would be great to see more examples or specific fashion movements from different eras to support your analysis and give readers a clearer picture of how fashion has evolved over time. Your question about why fashions change over time is thought-provoking, and your explanation that fashion is closely tied to individual personalities and preferences is well-argued. Including historical examples or case studies of fashion shifts due to societal changes, technological advancements, or cultural influences would enrich your exploration of this topic. Your discussion on the impact of celebrities on fashion is well-considered. To enhance your analysis, you could include specific examples of celebrities who have had a significant influence on fashion.

  2. Hello Hannah,
It was interesting to learn more about how fashion changes over time. I related to when you said people change over time. I definitely don’t have the same style that I had when I was in middle school. I also find myself easily influenced to buy brands and styles that I see often in celebrities’ fashion. Overall, a great blog post to read! A suggestion I have for you is to look into how fashion has affected beauty standards over the years. For example, in the 2000’s the beauty standard was to be very skinny for the popular clothes that people were wearing such as low-rise jeans.

  3. Hey Hannah!

I love these 3 research topics! I can strongly agree with the topic of celebrities having a strong impact on fashion. Seeing photos online of models, actors, and athletes can strongly change your opinion on your shopping and fashion choices. Something I find interesting is how smaller influencers (on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube) provide small videos on how to style trendy pieces, or re creating celebrities simple, but elegant street styles, for everyday fashion. One thing you could improve on is adding a little more depth into your topics, to give more of a clearer idea.

    Good research!!

  4. Hey Hannah,
This is such an intriguing blog post to read! I love how you have organized your post because it is so easy to understand. I also agree with your statement that celebrities have a huge influence on fashion. This is because I believe that celebrities are basically role models for certain people, so their supporters will always try to copy their sense of style. A question I have for you is that do you think fashion trends repeat themselves over time? If so, what are some clothing trends from the past that are popular now again? Furthermore, I have provided links in this comment that talk about current fashion trends that might help you with research. Nonetheless, I can’t wait to read more posts!
