Blog Post #3 – Research Round #1

Hello everyone! Welcome to my first round of research on my topic, Fashion Throughout History. I will start my research by studying these three topics that connect to my question.

1. Fashion compared to now vs. then

The first topic I have chosen is fashion compared to now vs. then. This is important because one of the biggest details you will find in fashion and trends is the trends that have taken a nostalgic turn. Especially recently, we have seen many trends from the 90’s and early 2000’s come back again. This includes flared jeans, claw clips, plaid flannel shirts, velvet suits, and baby tees. Of course there are many more trends that have started up again but that list would go on for a long time. The 90’s and early 2000’s style was actually a reimagined version of 60’s and 70’s style. It was reimagined for a more “modern” 90’s and 00’s look. Retro was out, “Grunge” was in. Many nostalgic turns would come with the modern day style leaking into it as well.

2. Why do fashions change over time?

Many people care about fashion trends and whats trending now to wear, others just wear what they have and what they prefer. But did you know all fashions and outfits come from trends? Whether it was an older trend or new trends today. Many celebrities have also started these trends which is also another topic I will be researching as well! But an example of an everyday clothing item that was made popular by a celebrity is Micheal Jackson making the parachute pants a popular trend. Many fashion designers and people have said that the reason fashions will change is because people change. They mature which can make their fashion go more basic, they could stick to one colour, or they could branch out and try a unique style of fashions that is colourful.

3. What impact do celebrities have on fashion?

Celebrities and influencers are probably some of the biggest trend setters out there, it could be because of their charming personality, their face, or how they dress in general. (But people do take inspirations from their personalities as well fashion trends can really be started from anywhere). Walking red carpets is an easy way for celebrities to gain instant attention on their outfits and what they wear, some like to branch out, some like to stay to their original styles that they are known for. Another way celebrities show off their styles and unique fashions is throughout social media. It is one of the easiest ways to gain an audience these days and get people talking about new fashion trends. One of my favourite trends started by celebrities is the very controversial, socks with crocs or sandals. In my opinion I think it is a great combonation for spring. Celebrities and influencers have also changed the fashion styles recently with finding simple ways to create a stylished dress down comfortable look. Which is also a trend I really enjoy as well.

Thank you for reading my blog! I hope you enjoyed reading it and I hope you will read my future ones as well 🙂

  1. Hey Hannah!
I love your topic! It interests me, especially because we are seeing so many trends from decades past make a comeback! One thing that interested me was that 90s and 2000s style was re imagined from the 60s and 70s! I looked at a few photos, and saw some similarities! One thing you could improve on is added images so your point could be more clearly made. The visual representation helps readers connect to the text.
