For this semester my chosen question is: Why is impressionism important in (art) history?
This question is important to me because recently I was able to see some essential impressionist artists and their works. It made me think how much of an effect this category has made not only in art history but in political and modern fields as well. It is astonishing how much art can be significant culturally and I am hoping with this essential question I will be able to delve into other topics as well. I hope by sharing my research I will be able to help readers learn about events in history, and the importance of art and culture, through one of the most important art movements of human history. Some examples of some of the topics and questions I will be exploring are “Who were some of the significant figures who led the impressionist era and who were some of the last to lead it?” “What were some of the most culturally and politically significant paintings that were a result of impressionism?”, “How has impressionism morphed into what we know as modern art today?” And “what can we tell about future art from an impressionistic lens?” Among many of the questions, I will be attempting to answer.
