Blog #2- Coastal Cleanup

The action I am going to be doing is coastal clean-up. We live along the coast and it is a big part of our everyday lives. Taking care and insuring it is clean is equally as important. I am going to start by finding the materials I need to do this affectively and the locations that are my focus. Some of the complexity I may face in my action is disposing of the waste I clean up. While I am cleaning up the plastic pollution, it is vital that my methods of disposing and recycling it, are also sustainable. I would make sure to sort through everything and recycle whatever I can because this conserves energy, reduced air and water pollution, reduces greenhouse gases, and conserves natural resources. This action is sustainable because it doesn’t compromise the future generation, in fact it will enhance both the current and the future. Thousands of marine animals worldwide are affected by plastic pollution. Pollution of the oceans by plastics, toxic metals, manufactured chemicals, pesticides, sewage, and agricultural runoff is killing and contaminating the fish that feed 3 billion people. This coastal pollution spreads life-threatening infections. So beach clean-ups are vital to mitigate the problem caused by ocean debris and the danger that plastic pollution causes to marine life. This action is also providing more opportunity because it can help gather new data about the state of our coasts and the types of trash that pollutes them. By identifying the most harmful debris items, we can find ways to stop them from entering the ocean or being littered again. I will ensure that I am making the positive impact I intend by recycling whatever waste I can.

I love how you decided to do an action project, and get out onto our local beaches and clean up. Incorporating sustainable ways to recycle and clean is super important, so I like that you included those aspects into your plan. Here are helpful resources for future research and planning:
