Blog Post #7 – Reflection

1. Address the following questions:

a. What challenges did you overcome throughout this inquiry project? How did you go about
overcoming these challenges?

One of the challenges that I overcame throughout my inquiry project is that it was difficult to find the specific information that I needed for my research. I could always find irrelevant information and the sources I found were not very reliable. I overcame this challenge by looking at the links that my classmates recommended to me in the comments that they posted on my blog. I looked through them one by one and I feel that they actually helped me a lot more than sources I found myself. Another challenge I overcame throughout the project is that I ran out of ideas to research about that relates to my topic. Even though I planned out each blog post at the beginning of the semester, I found that the information about each section was way too less, causing me to squish two blog posts into one. I overcame this challenge by becoming more detailed with the blog posts, so I would have more information to talk about.

b. How did this inquiry change the way you think?

This inquiry changed the way I think because I now fully understand why people would choose, or even consider using MAiD. Before I did this inquiry project, I didn’t understand why people would ever want to die earlier on a specific date they chose. I thought everyone’s dream was to live as long as possible, but I was wrong and I learned many new things as I did my research. Therefore, it gives me a different way of thinking.

c. How did this investigation impact your future decisions?

This investigation impacted my future decisions because in the future, if I were to come across someone who could benefit from MAiD, I can easily recommend them this idea and inform them that MAiD is legal and perfectly safe. If I find myself in the position of needing MAiD, after all the research, I will more likely choose it to end my own life. I now know everything about MAiD and I think it is a great option that I may need to consider in the future.

d. What impact will this investigation have on others locally and/or globally?

This investigation can help others locally because now that I have learned so much about Medical Assistance in Dying, I am more knowledgeable when recommending this action to others who may be suffering from a terminal illness. Others, who may not know about this, will learn about it, and then further communicate the information to their friends/family. Therefore, a whole new chain of people will have now heard about MAiD as an extremely useful tool that can help people in many ways. This investigation can help others globally because after learning about the ways of helping people end their suffering by using MAiD, I have started to think about maybe going the medical route in university. That way, if I get to be a doctor or nurse that helps with MAiD in the future, I can help so many people not just in the neighbourhood, but all around the world.

I hope you enjoyed reading all my blog posts this semester!
