About Me

Hey guys! My name is Ronnie, and I’m in grade 12 this year. I moved here from Hong Kong 4  years ago, and I live with my mom in Coquitlam and I go to Charles Best. My favourite thing to do when I have free time is read. I love reading novels, my recent favourite is American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis, there’s a movie adaption but the book is better (always).

I’ve lived in Hong Kong for most of my life, and the culture there is very different from Canada. There’s more than one way of thinking, and no one way is better than another. Our culture shapes the way we work and play, and it makes a difference in how we view ourselves and others. In Hong Kong, being efficient is a huge part of our culture and value. Do things fast, walk fast, talk fast, everyone will expect that from you. Being an efficient country, we have a lot less patience. We’re expected to talk straight to the point, whatever the message is. Because we’re so impatient, we always present ourselves in a smart manner even though we may not necessarily be correct. Hong Kong culture was born in a sophisticated fusion of East and West. It not only kept many Chinese traditions but also experienced a baptism of western culture. This situation led to the diversity of its culture and the people there are open-minded to accept variety.

As Grade 12 gets more stressful and time consuming, when I do have spare time, I like to play drums. I’ve been playing the drum kit since I was 3, and I think it could count as a passion of mine. A passion gives you a reason to keep learning and to work toward mastery. Playing the drums also relaxes me, the act of playing, especially vigorous drumming, helps me to burn calories through sweat, builds muscles and increases stamina. It also increases my heart rate and blood flow, all while focusing on keeping the groove. Drumming is my passion because the rhythmic noise makes me feel good, the natural high relieves stress and anxiety.

Thanks for reading about me! I look forward to getting to know all of you!
