Address the following questions:
a. What challenges did you overcome throughout this inquiry project? How did you go about overcoming these challenges?
At the start of my project, I struggled to find consistent answers for some of my questions. Because my question is very opinion based, I was finding different answers for some of my more detailed questions. To solve this, I did more vague researching on capitalism and socialism. Once I had done that it was easier for me to understand other people’s opinions, and the reasoning behind them.
How did this inquiry change the way you think?
Before doing this project, I wasn’t very educated on our economy. I only knew the basics since I had never been taught about it, but now I know enough to have formed my own opinion on the different types of economies. Also, while i was researching about marketers I learned about some of the strategies used commonly by them, which was definitely eye opening. For example, putting essentials like milk and bread at the very back of grocery stores, or Apple getting rid of the headphone jack and releasing AirPods.
How did this investigation impact your future decisions?
Like I previously stated, I learned about many marketing strategies while researching for this inquiry project. As a result, I think it will be easier for me to be conscious of this. Therefore, I won’t be influenced by them as easily.
What impact will this investigation have on others locally and/or globally?
I think my project will show my self and others how we benefit and how we’re affected or vulnerable in a Capitalist society. Furthermore, I think it will make others more aware of being influenced to buy products, even if we don’t need it. Specifically on social media and online shopping websites. For instance, the Amazon or YouTube recommended page is designed to persuade you. Overall, I hope everyone has learned something new from my project.
Hi Saachi, that was a really cool post! Throughout reading your posts, I learnt a lot of cool things, but I think one of the most interesting is are the tactics that companies use so efficiently to trick us into buying more things that we need. Working in a grocery store, I never thought of why some of the most popular items, like bread and milk, are so far away from the entrance, so it was really fascinating to learn how such a simple strategy has such a large impact on our spending habits; as you walk through the wide variety of products, like candy and chips, as you walk towards the bakery or refrigerated section, you get distracted by the myriad of other items and might end up buying way too much. Such an interesting topic!
