What music is currently popular and what type of music do you like?

With my age and location more rap music is becoming very popular, people like Playboi Carti, King Von, Juice Wrld and The Weeknd started growing a large following, in 2010-2016 these artists were considered underground and just unpopular. They rap about their gang life, problems they may have faced, emotions, substance abuse and love. Since 2016 more people started discovering this type of music and found themselves relating to one of these topics or using it as a way to express themselves. Lots of people also enjoy and celebrate the lives of rappers like Lil Peep, Pop Smoke and Xxxtentaion because they have tragically passed and with their death, they started growing a following and people appreciate their art.

I enjoy a lot of different types of music but I mainly enjoy rap, bedroom pop and local music. Rap music for me is how I hype myself up for the day, I don’t like loud music but people like Travis Scott and Playboi Carti are good for the morning rush more vibey type of music. They rap mainly about problems they have faced or how they feel. Bedroom pop is more lowkey pop, not too mainstream but still considered pop, like Joji, Tyler the Creator and Clairo. I enjoy their music while I study because the more mellow vibe helps me focus. Local music is music made by people local to my area (Vancouver) these artists are mainly my friends, they don’t have any sort of genre they just make what they want to make. Some artists include Aaron Arneson, Dwalk, Palmsveneta, Xo Wifi and Marto. They make music to whatever they want and I enjoy that because I feel like one artist shouldn’t be confined to make one type of music.
